Good luck, DD. I've known quite a few people who have done tours in Afganistan and Iraq (many more than one tour).

When you're back in the US and if you're in my neck of the woods, I'll buy you a beer (well, several) or whatever your drink of choice is.

I've known a few people who were in Bagdhad and other places and what was available for internet was 56K. If you need anything, let us know. Maybe DN can get together a nice care package for you to share with your brothers-in-arms (admins?). (Yes, I know raising money for charities is against the forum policies, but this would be 100% internal and go to DD and it would be supplies, like towers, moisturizers, toothbrushes, soap, porn mags, etc..).
I've said it many times in the past, I don't care what your stance is on the wars, we (civilians) need to support the troops!!!

Hey, I'm with you on this.

Get Devil Dogs address and send some stuff. I know my brother-in-law was sent 5 times in less than 4 years. They craved the simple stuff like Sunflower Seeds, Pringles and just good ol' American junk food.

I'm all in!

When you get situated & login to read this post, send us your unit's info so some of us can send off care packages.

You are there so we can sit around making money by selling words. Just saying "thanks" doesn't seem adequate.

Frequently I'll quietly pay the ticket for servicemen & their families when I see them eating out. I am embarrassed to hear them say thanks for the meal. There just isn't a comparison between a couple bucks for dinner & facing a bullet.

Thank you for your service, Darren.

I'm sorry you have to go to this stupid war.

You'll be in our prayers...

i have highlighted the only 'essential supplies'

i would say vast majority are against, including most of troops! ask Devil himself. i admire him more as he is doing duty

but you are right, we need to support troops AND their families

when troops do come home injured they are not getting the financial packages they deserve or best care in many cases in UK, this is so wrong

anyway. take care bro

I have a friend who is currently doing his second tour in Afghanistan. He said something to me that really make me think.

After his first tour, he came home and his flight home took him and some of his buddies though a civilian airport.

Sure enough, a large crowd was there all wanted to shake their hands, hug them, thank them, talk to them and so on.

All he wanted to do was to go home and take a long shower. He had spent over 36 hours in transit (little to no sleep). He felt disgusting.

He said he did appreciate the attention, though, he said it was a nice home coming.

Then, someone handed him a toothbrush. :?::lol: (Yes, he laughs about that one now)

As for the care packages - admins or should we just do this on our own?

Finally, the day has come where my unit's departing for Iraq.

We depart Az tonight, land in Tx, pick up 100 Army folk, stopover in Bangor, Maine, stopover in Germany and fly into Kuwait.

Offload in Kuwait, and catch a cargo plane into Iraq.

I am not looking forward to this trip, hopefully these sleeping pills I have will knock me out the majority of it. :D

Not sure if internet access is reliable over there as of now, so not sure how often I'll be checking these forums.

See you all around Nov 08!

Your internet solution.

Try to aim the one with laptop and wireless connection.
You can tell who has the laptop as they will look down to the screen instead of looking up for the enemies. Very easy to spot them.

Thanks for all the responses folks. Nice to know that people care.
I'm sitting here waiting for the plane to load and have a few minutes of downtime.

As far as the address, I appreciate the offers to send stuff but personally, I don't really need anything but there are some junior Marines who don't have any type of familly support network that would love it. I will ensure that if something get's sent to me, I'll post a picture with the Marine's response. :)

Porn mags are umm, how should I put it, a no no! :D Postal randomly inspects packages and if they find porn, or alcohol or anything else, it gets confiscated and a notification is sent out to the CO. Anyway, the majority of these folks bring their stash via their personal laptops anyway, lol.

My mailing address is as follows:
SSgt Monroe, Darren K.
VMA-311 (S3 Ops)
Unit 43015
FPO AP 96426-3015

As for the other questions, fortunately, no I won't be on the front lines, but come to think about it, there are no front lines in this type of conflict. :approve:
All we do is send the Harriers out to do the dirty work.

This is my seventh overseas deployment, so hopefully this is the last one. 2 1/2 years until retirement.
