Here's there latest email:
Dear DirectI Customer / Reseller
We have registered a large percentage of the domain names for which we had received pre-registration applications.
All domain names have been registered with temporary contact information. This temporary contact information will be replaced with the information of the customer to whom the domain name is allotted, by Friday 25th Feb.
All domains were registered using a single temporary contact ID to significantly improve the chances of getting the domain name on your / your customer's behalf. This is because registration of each new contact at the registry takes 'x' seconds. By registering all domain names under a single temporary holding contact, we saved these 'x' seconds per domain name.
This temporary holding account is also used for domains for which we have received multiple applications. More information on processes followed by us for domain names for which we have received multiple applications is given below.
Details of the Temporary Holding Account are as follows:
Name: .IN Temporary Holding Account

Street3: Actual Contact details will be updated by 25th Feb

A good percentage of domain names registered through DirectI have only a single applicant.
A smaller percentage of domain names registered through DirectI have multiple applications. The number of applications per domain varies from 6-10 per domain to as much as 80-100+ for a domain.
Process followed for Domains having a Single Applicant:
If there was only a single applicant for a domain name - we will be sending the applicant and the reseller an email by 18th Feb, which states that this domain has been allotted to this applicant.
Majority of the domains registered through DirectI fall in this category.
All contact modification and domain stuffing for these domain names will be completed by 25th Feb. Details of the same will be provided in the allotment email that will be sent by 18th Feb.
IMPORTANT! Process followed for Domains that have Multiple Applicants:
In case we have successfully registered a domain for which we have received multiple applications - as announced earlier on, we were going to allot domains using a silent auction.
However, we have received a notification from the .IN Domain Registry (Advisory No. LA 01) in the last 24 hrs stating that .IN domain registrars cannot auction or sell .IN domains at prices higher than they usually charge from their customers.
Due to this notification we may no longer be able to use the auction process even though we do not wish to go back on the initial process that we had announced.
We are still finalizing the new allocation process after getting more clarifications from the registry. We will be posting an update once this process has been finalized by us. As of right now, we believe that we should be finalizing the allocation process by Tuesday, 22nd Feb and finishing the allocation latest by Friday, 25th Feb.
Refunds to Customers:
If the domain is not registered or not allotted to you, we will automatically credit your advance account with the FULL amount that you have paid for such unregistered domain name. All refunds will be credited to your advance account in less than 2 weeks from today.
Refunds to Resellers (Funds Unlocking):
If we do not succeed in registering a domain name for which your customer has put a pre-registration request or allot this domain name to some other customer, then we will be unlocking your reseller funds for such domain names. All unlocking will be completed in less than 2 weeks. We will try to complete this process earlier if possible.
Refunds to Reseller's Customers:
If the domain is not registered or not allotted to your customer, our system will automatically credit your customer's advance account with the FULL amount that he/she has paid for such unregistered domain name. All refunds will be credited to your customer's advance account in less than 2 weeks after the registry goes live i.e. after 16th Feb 2005. The system can handle this refund process ONLY if you have used our invoicing system i.e. if you have canceled the invoices and execute the order, then our system will not be able to determine the amount that needs to be refunded to your customer, and you will have to handle this manually at your end.
Warm Regards
