I never believed in .mobi from the start, well with the iPhone and all...
the bottom line is that .mobi is a step backwards when it comes to technology. Who wants a downgraded version of a website with all the features removed?
the only reason .mobi was such a "success" was because of all the speculators and hype IMO. The .mobi crew is laughing their way to the bank, hyping up the TLD and auctioning off the best names. The rest of the people are caught in a struggle to get their moneys worth by constantly convincing themselves and others around them that the .mobi TLD will strive and blossom.
So .mobi lovers are pretty much saying that 2 years from now, phones will not improve enough to support complex script heavy websites (which is already done today), AND that the public will be much much more aware of the .mobi TLD.
And another thing, so lets say we are given Foxnews, right? The example you guys keep using... They have their foxnews.com and foxnews.mobi. Just a few more years down the line, when the vast majority of the population will be on iphones, blackberries, and other devices that can perfectly render a complicated .com website... which version of the site will foxnews advertise? The .mobi? or the .com which has all the features and advertising for them to profit on?
Give me a break, .mobi would have been a good idea if the cellphones browser/internet capabilities were not able to evolve.
.com was the past, .com is the present, .com will be the future
