I have 4 domains accepted into this Snapnames Auction, and I don't mind discussing them here because:
1) I'm happy to let the market decide what they are worth
2) I'm fortunate in that I was one of Snapnames original customers back in the day when you could snap names for $65 fixed. Most of my 700+ good quality names came from this.

The domains I have in the extended auction are:

PrestigeHandbags.com $2500
JokerPoker.net $2500
OrchidDelivery.com $2500
DesignBuildings.com $250

I was surprised that they wanted to drop the reserve on DesignBuildings to $250 because to my mind it's a better domain than jokerpoker.net Also the selection strategy is a bit odd because I submitted 109 names (similar quality to this but some to my mind much better) and they chose these ones. Not sure what the selection criteria are but they turned down ElectronicAppliances.com, BuyAmericanFlags.com, SportscarDealership.com, MotorCarRacing.com and many other domains that I personally think are better.

Prestigehandbags.com is my most recent pickup and if you're in the high end handbag market (massive margins on this sort of kit) I guess it'd make a decent shop.

Happy for people to discuss on here and speculate as to how they'll go (or not as the case may be) - from my point of view I paid up to $7-$65 for these names so will do well regardless.

I have one in the extended auction...and it's a niche name in an industry that has been growing exponentially the past few years. I spoke to someone over at Snapnames b/c I was seriously considering pulling it, but he did a good job of convincing me to take the chance. I need some access to additional cash soon, so I'm going to take the chance this round and hope I don't regret it.:undecided:

I too am surprised over some of the questionable choices for live...with some great names at low reserves on the extended list.

Like Batman, I would appreciate any insight into the benefits of promoting the name beforehand or not. My feeling is this name is a gem that is likely to be overlooked by the general domainer b/c it's still early for the name in the US and traffic is low...so if there aren't many competing end-users aware of this auction, than the winner is getting it at an absolute steal.

Anybody notice that the Overture scores seem very low on the auction inventory lists?
How the heck are they calculating these?

how the heck do you let them know what the traffic on the domain is? The one I have up for auction gets some tremendous traffic, and I think that would really add to the sale price.

I have two domains in the auction:

Fluorescents.net $1 (Live)
BusinessRebates.com $5,000 (Extended)
I put the live one at $1 in order to stimulate bidding, and to see what happens; its an experiment. I have lots of domains, including lots of fluorescent-themed domains, so its good to experiment. I sure could use a good sale though.

If you look at past auctions, most domains have few to no bidders. I think it makes sense to promote your domains - after all, it only takes a few bidders to make a good sale. Your promotion might create a few more bidders. And all the people who dont bid, do not matter.

Also, if you promote, you can form more relationships, and relationships drive business. Those who are well-connected have more opportunities, and those who are paranoid or lazy just lose opportunities. I sometimes get lazy but most people do!

Good luck to all in their SNAP auction!

What do you guys all think about stock market situation, and if it has any relationship
to the upcoming auction? It is no secret that people that have money deversify by
investing into stocks etc. Is it possible to assume that some potential buyers lost a
lot of money last week and this week on the stock market and won't be spending a lot
on the auction?

If I was smarter when I got the intial email I would have registered for the auction, too bad I missed it.

Eh, oh well, next time, I don't think this will be the only one. I think the companies are seeing what TRAFFIC has done and trying to monetize on it, too.

I think the auction starts today or tomorrow, so it is too late.

I think the market situation might slow things down a little but only temporarily. The greater trend for the domain industry imo is up. I say this because we have seen all facets of business/media migrate to the internet and there is so much growth left to go. I believe some buying will continue because buyers know that sellers may be looking to unload some domain assets if the economy slows. Sometimes there is only one opportunity to buy these assets because once they change hands they may become unattainable. Buyers will not want to miss the opportunity. P.S. I might revise this opinion, ;)

Anyone celebrating? You don't need to share the domains, just curious.

wasn't surprising. Most of the names today were crappy. Lets see what tomorrow brings.
