If anyone was curious why I fight so hard to see theives get nailed and help recover names...

About 2 plus yrs ago I had a LL domain stolen back from me AFTER I even paid for it and no I did not get a refund. It took me 6+ months and legal fees ( Zak Muscovitch was the best I could have asked for though and I thank John Berryhill for pointing me to him as I am in Canada ) eventually recovering the name .

I know what countless headaches and sleepless stress filled nights are like and hate to see others go through it. That is why I try my best to get things done quickly and with happy results.

It's appreciated by everyone because it shows that when a thief commits a crime against a domain investor, he doesn't just have to worry about that person finding him, but other people as well. As busy as the Internet and these forums are, it can feel very lonely when you are dealing with something like this. Not only is it a major annoyance, but a violation of privacy...etc. It's nice when people care enough to help.

Wow, I just finished going through this thread, what a read.

I have to say, if GG was smart enough to do this in the first place I think he knew exactly what he was doing. Pleading innocent now is a lame attempt to recover some face. In fact, he was too smart for his own good and let his ego get in the way of his "plans"... If he had not gotten caught he would keep on doing it, and the sad part is he may very well still be doing the exact same thing as we speak...

Kudos to the members here for exposing this scam artist...

BTW, I thought that this was once a web-site. I see it's pointing to a GD parked page.

I had simular experience a few times, I had an account hacked one time, names pushed to a new account, and I recovered them, changed the pass, and then a year later the same account was hacked again, by the same guy, and a name taken, toke a few month, got it back, and that same weekend it was taken from me, by a new hacker, and lets just say I am fed up with hijackers.

BTW, I thought that this was once a web-site. I see it's pointing to a GD parked page.

Yes, you are correct

( I have to say, if GG was smart enough to do this in the first place I think he knew exactly what he was doing. )

I think you give GG to much credit, more then likely one of has gaming or hackers freinds, wiped up a site and program to hack hotmail and some other emails. Many email hacking programs are out there, if GG know what he was doing he would of tried to cover his tracks.

GG did email me a few times, after being banned from the site. He is a teen I'm pretty sure of it, most likely his mom or some one else was replying before for him. He really don't know english that well, and he knows stuff and has feelings only a teen would. I'm sure his mom will keep him on a short leash, moms know how to deal with their kids pretty much.

I feel for him really, he thought he had out smarted everyone with this. But then found out, that not only was he out smarted but he never had a chance to being with. Yes you can push him even more now, but then he will not care after a while and keep doing this kind of stuff. Or you can see this as away to help him, and give him another chance at making this right.

I remember back in 95 and 96, I was playing with hacking programs, and messing around to learn stuff. Then one day I was scanning a big ip address, and no info could be had from it. I then started typing in the address bar, got in the back door. But to my shock I was there 10 mins or so, found 1000's of credit card and names there.

I did not get it at first, thinking it was account info or some thing like that. As soon as I seen, it was really credit card info I got off that site pretty fast. Then worried some one else, had found the same back door and used the info to steal money. And they would find I was on there, needless to say I never messed with hacking again. If GG had knew what he was doing, he would of been able to cover his tracks much much better.

A user, who will remain nameless for now, has emailed me seeking financial reward paid to his paypal account for the help he gave me in returning my domain.

:sigh2:

whatever happened to doing the right thing simply because it's the right thing to do?

I'm speechless.

>>>BTW, I thought that this was once a web-site. I see it's pointing to

Yep, that's right.
The site will be back up as soon as I've sorted out the hosting.

I want to get away from Godaddy asap but once I get some new hosting going and change the DNS, the 60 day wait starts over. Bastards.

If the person you are referring to done the right thing and spent his/her time getting the name back for you then it is only right that you should of offered some sort of compensation. Otherwise you would have had to spend thousands in getting the name back through legal channels.

Perhaps it would be "Right" for you to make your appreciation known to all the people who gave up their time to assist in the recovery of the domain.

WOW, if this was one of us and we were wrongfully accused of stealing, this would be one NASTY thread, when the guilty get themselves in trouble, you almost never see them mad, fear usually takes over and they try to cover it up, digging themselves an early grave, a defense attorney's nightmare and a prosecutors dream.

If your going to hijack a domain, why hijack a crappy domain like mimimise.com?, why not minimize.com? perhaps because he thought it would pass under the radar, thats why he felt OK posting it here on DNF, I mean who would bother checking on that one? As for the domain owner, Were you really going to hire an attorney to get it back? that's almost like a scavenger digging through your garbage before moving to the street and spending thousands of $$$ trying to get back your empty box of cheerios.

I recommend that Adam not only close this thread, but delete it from public view, my fear is that it will be used as a breeding ground for more domain hijackers, you can rest assure the search engines will index it, that is if they haven't already.....Congrats to those who got their domains back and many thanks to those that made it possible. ;)

You can't have read the thread very well, it was minimize.com, the subject line was mistyped.

If they are recent immigrants to the US, he would be the one in the family that knows english the best, not any of hist parents. Younger people learn languages much faster than adults.

Raider,

the domain was minimise.com, not minimize.com

For those of us who speak european english, that's how we spell it.

So for UK, Ireland, Europe etc that's the valid spelling and therefore the right .com to have.

Aside from that, I run a record label called "minimise" which is where the importance of having minimise.com lies for me.

I've done all of my email and business using that domain since 1999 and that's where 99% of fans/booking agents/other record labels/magazines etc will try to reach me. So the answer to your patronizing (us spelling) question : <<Were you really going to hire an attorney to get it back?>> is a loud, resounding YES!

So, thanks for your input and the free domain appraisal but you're about 10,000 miles (16,093.44 Kilometres in Europe) wide of the mark.

Donnacha.

Well, that would explain it, kinda surprised the mods didn't correct the title.

Anyhow, i just want to move on.

Before you move on, you show do the right thing and show your appreciation to those who helped the most, this is something not worth haggling over.

gorlov, the domain name is minimise.com not minimize.com. It's the UK spelling and it's the spelling that the entire europe uses as in 99% of the cases the european language schools teach UK english not US. I myself was writing UK english until I joined this forum - you guys shifted my english to US:lol:

Heh.. yeah, I misspelled without thinking about it. just thought abot the m being n, not the rest. The spelling I learned in school was the english one, but after living in the US for a few years I changed (mostly) to US spelling... and that's what still comes automatically for me.
