Hi guys,
I'm trying to consolidate my domain collection and am thinking of moving my domains over to Godaddy. I've heard people raving about Moniker but I find their interface tempremental and not quite as easy to use as Godaddy, and furthermore Godaddy's pricing seems to be one of the best around with the discount club membership..

Most of my domains are currently with eNom (Bulkregister account) who currently charge me $12 on renewals...

Just wondering if there are any pit falls of having all of your domains in one basket and is Godaddy a good basket to keep them in? :)

Cheers,
Francis

GoDaddy is horrible, use Moniker. GoDaddy is known to just freeze domains, yank websites, charge $60 for expired renewals, the list goes on... GoDaddy is a security nightmare, I'm moving all my domains away from them.

GoDaddy's control panel sucks too, it's so freakin slow.

I agree - I've heard way more horror stories about GoDaddy than just about anyone else. No experience with Moniker, but I love enom and have a lot of resellers who do as well.

Since Adam became VP in GoDaddy and promised great things regarding security, it might be a good option. However, I'm waiting for a bit, I want to see the changes first.
Up until now I've done like Seraphim, moving away domains as soon as possible, but I might change that practice to the opposite if Adams improvements of GoDaddy are any good.

Really? Complete opposite experience for me. Never had a problem with GD and I think their interface is one of the best in the industry.

I have used a lot of registrars and here are my comments.

Enom: Probably the worst of the major registrars. I like their control panel, and the push is easy - but the system often gives errors; you often cant even list your domains. What ruins it for me is their support can take days to even acknowledge a question, and then when they do respond, its as if they did not even read the question - perhaps they have staff turnover.
I have sold domains, transferred them to another registrar, and they still show in enom - that is terrible. Enom has such promise, but its not realized. I know a lot of people in the industry and the background problem with enom is they own a lot of domains themselves now, and that is their focus; not the customer. Another example has to do with accounting; try to get a list of what you spent at enom in january, for the previous year - it wont tell you as reports only go back 6 months. And try to get a list of what dropped, for tax purposes; they cant tell you at all.

Netsol: why would anyone ever use netsol?

Moniker: very good customer support, very confusing interface. I have domains there, and any domain being listed for an auction like TRAFFIC you should move to moniker. But the interface is odd and I dont think they will be changing it any time soon.

Godaddy: you get very good support for small issues; poor support for server issues and any difficult question unless you really push them hard. But I like the interface a lot, and i like the pricing. You can get a lot of coupons for godaddy too if you search online for 'godaddy coupon codes'. Their backorder system is cheap ($18), easy to use, and rarely wins - but the trick there is to keep your backorder on the domain even if you lose; most guys release backorders if they win one that has low traffic so you might still get it. Godaddy has flexible searching, discounts if you work with your rep on things, flexible payment, a lot of good things. My main problem with godaddy right now is their folders do not work right. I have told them and they dont get it so i just dont use godaddy folders {godaddy allows you to assigna domain to more then one folder; which might be useful to someone, i guess but if you then move one or two domains setup like that, it clears entire folders - very odd behaviour). on a day to day basis, godaddy is the smoothest for me. If their session timeout was longer, it would be nice.

Hope this helps someone,

Kevin

Packeted, I'm in the same boat, a BR account that has raised its prices higher than enom's and still charges a $99 fee per year for "premium membership". I'm not happy with them.

I thought about moving them all to Moniker but was only offered a good price if I moved about 400 domains all at once rather than as they come due for renewal. I think GD's interface as well as Dotster is quite cumbersome so I've stayed away from those two. And no one in their right mind would ever consider register.com; that's like asking to be raped without protection. And Network Solutions wasn't designed for the multiple domain hoarder.

For now, I'm still at BR/enom until someone better comes along.

Godaddy interface in my eyes is confusing, there support is good,
moniker is the best overall,
enom is okay,
I would never have all my domains in one basket,
i had my domains frozen over a cc dispute and that was a nightmare,

I have had 2 awful experiences w/ godaddy support. I also find their interface confusing. i know they offer a lot of sales and discounts, but personally i am willing to pay a little bit extra for peace of mind and support when i need it.

The old Bulkregister, which got bought out by enom, was the best. Great support, the best interface, good pricing... i love bulkregister. A huge loss when enom absorbed it. I think they would have had more market share by simply running both, off of one registrar database. I for one never buy new domains at Enom.

I met the programmer of the bulkregsiter user interface once, nice guy. If anyone here ever wins the lotto, lets hire that guy to do something equivalent, even if they have to backend the actual registration via enom or someone.

Yes, Godaddy has a lot to offer but their low end hosting has a lot of limitations. You can have a good site but you can't ask for anything extra since its a shared server. We have a site there, and we are using CF (Cold Fusion). It was very difficult to even find out what CF options they support, and after some very aggressive pushing, we convinced godaddy that even their own example code would not run - so they fixed an installation error. But it was very difficult!

Probably at any hosting company, you will have similar issues on the low end boxes. You have to have a dedicated server of some kind to install custom stuff.

Still, once we got our setup all smoothed out, I like godaddy and its easy to add more domains into our existing hosting account. I am sticking with godaddy. I figure, I have gone through the pain part, so now its clear sailing.

godaddy rates poor in my book for hosting, they just SUK... my site was down 3-5 times a month.. their support team tells me everytime ohhhh we dont see any issues on our end.. i had enough and now deal with a independent company.. no downtime ...

for domains, GD ROCKS

Have used GoDaddy for many years. Their domain management tools work well. Their domain security measures are very good.

They are also active in representing the domain industry and its participants as they send knowledgeable legal reps to ICANN conferences to address industry issues.

Moniker is the easiest if you are managing alot of domains changing around things alot like DNS and forwarding, etc...

If you rarely change anything and don't have to "play" with you names then Godaddy is the best..they do have the slowest control panel in the business and it's a b*tch to navigate..but it is also idiot proof as far as what exactly you are doing to your name, good for beginners for sure. Their pricing is very close but GD is cheaper overall but with moniker you can get $1 privacy if you get the special rate you gotta ask for...and for questionable names like TM's and Typo's definitely Moniker over anyone else...they do not turn off names and they do not get involved at all unless it's court ordered..they are extremely sensitive to our domainer needs in that sense..for ultimate security on very top generic domains I have them at NETSOL and never have had any issues there. Also, would like to mention the security is only as good as you are at keeping your email account active and password safe...99% of the time it is YOUR fault if something happens to your domain(s) not theirs..

I change DNS setting often to test different monetization strategies. Somtimes it takes GD up to 4 hours to resolve the new settings change. At Moniker it takes maybe 5 minutes. GD's control does look great, but it's too slow if you need to crank out a lot of changes, just as Chris pointed out.

I am thinking about moving domains AWAY from Godaddy. They are useless in the case of someone stealing domains.

I have had my email accounts at Godaddy and their email sucks. Sometimes I do not even receive emails or the email will be deleted after I click to read an email.

I think Moniker is good. From what I've heard they will return stolen domains. It is eaiser to use their Domain marketplace if you're domains are with them and the Marketplace domains are now included in the registration searches.
