I wouldn't call this a new way. :smartass:

There's also a good sized thread on NP that mentions this method of selling to endusers.

Only use adwords for premium and/or keyword rich domains that have advertisers bidding on the keywords that your domain name contains.

Or if you own domainname.com and there are people that own domain-name.com, dnname.com, domainname.net, this is a good method as well.

You shouldn't spend a lot on adwords, even if your keywords are high paying terms. Only bid on the terms within your domain name. You can bid on singular and plural versions but I wouldn't bid on keywords not contained in your domain name, imo. If the terms within your domain suck, you won't have much success with this method. If you're trying to sell carloans893.com, it probably won't work for you either. Also, I think non .com's wouldn't sell as well, but that's just my 2 cents too. Unless for example, you have a .de and you advertise to Germany only, that could work if the terms within that .de have adwords bidders.

Congrats on the sales, namestrands.

Thanks man. The whole "hidden obviousness" of it all emerged as soon as I started to read your first post. Makes absolutely perfect sense.
Now if only I knew how to go about buying adwords.

Several years ago I sold a real estate domain to a Florida developer the same way, with a Google ad directed to a free GoDaddy page. It worked. But then when I tried it with other domains, Google kept cancelling my ads because they didn't perform well enough (people weren't clicking). I completely forgot about that idea. Nowadays, it should be fine because Google no longer cancels ads if they deem the performance too low, if I am correct... I'll have to try it again.

How I hear you cry?

Adwords.

Yes thats right both domains sold from Adwords Links within 1 week of listing.

Now how much did that cost me?

$1.90 yes thats all.

Got a premium domain.. Sell it on google.

Brilliant post!
Thank you

I would think most end users to be new to domain buying and therefore you would be more successful in selling were you to use the services of AfterNIC or SEDO.. You could use Escrow.com but its not really geared to domain sales.

Bonus of using AfterNIC or SEDO is that if the buyer decides to buy another domain other than your, you will still get the referer commission from the respective programs. (and its legally contractual)

However based on SEDOs Lame and over complicated way of getting Verified, I would go with AfterNIC every day. (i have had 3 people request sales from whois because they could not grasp the concept of sedo' verification.. end users like to enquire before a sale from my experience.)

AfterNIC offer a landing page that explains the domain and allows you to bid straight off the page. You have to be prepared to give up the parking revenue when the domain is parked on a AfterNIC sale Page, but it is effective and there is no confusion as to your intent to sell.

Cool idea. I now have a reason to join Afternic.

namestrands: Thanks for the tip, im testing it ATM. F$ donated.

You cant use the name sedo on the description as its trademarked, but if you are creative you dont need to use it anyway. Remember to use your affiliate id on the url, sedo offers a partnetship program, instant join if you are verified.

CPC = Cost per Click.

Ill let you know how it goes.

As long as you dont sponsor the word SEDO, I would be suprised if SEDO were to take offence seeing as you are advertising a sale through them.

Check with your account manager, they would be naive to refuse such a request.
