I really don't care who it's from, I don't appreciate PM spam from anyone.

Of course today I receive an email from DNForum that says I have a new PM from MediaHound saying he is happy to announce that Bido is open again.

Who cares? Certainly not me.

Members pay hundreds of dollars to join the forums here so "Former DNF Admin's" can spam us?

This user needs to go bye bye along with all their posts for abusing the forum. Their thread is already filling up with users complaining about the spam.

----------------------------------------

Spam Definition
The word "Spam" as applied to Email means Unsolicited Bulk Email ("UBE").

Unsolicited means that the Recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Bulk means that the message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content.

A message is Spam only if it is both Unsolicited and Bulk.

----------------------------------------

Unsolicited - check
Bulk - check

Spam = yes

I also got the spam from MediaHound and though not a really big deal, I don't think it was appropriate for him to send it just because he used to be an admin here. To me that's an abuse of power. It's also unfair to other "sellers" who have to use layman's avenues, such as banners, etc.

My biggest concern is not the spam so much as the fact that as an ex-admin still somehow had access and the ability to send the bulk spam and apparently Johnn, a current admin, is looking into it. I read into that, that they didn't know about it, and if that's the case, that's totally inappropriate.

You can see who is online at the bottom of the home page and then use that to send out PMs to up to 5 people at a time. Anyone can do this.

As far as I know, there was no approval from Adam for any type of mass PM!

That was a paid advertisement, approved by Adam himself, that the admin who sent it here failed to mention in the body.
I mailed it to DNF staff for them to send from the Admin panel of the DNF site.

Sorry it bothered those of you that didn't like it.

For those that do support Bido, from everyone here on the Bido team, thank you very much! If anyone needs anything regarding Bido please let me know.
We have a lot to offer the domain industry and our success is actually your success because we can greatly enhance your business if you grasp the Bido concept and utilize the different features the site offers.
Plus, a rising tide raises all ships :) We are bringing a lot of exposure to the domain name industry.

On another note, does anyone have some feedback for us regarding our revolutionary Social Auction Platform? All feedback, comments, constructive criticism, insults, support, etc. are greatly appreciated!

What the Hell! I thought of making this thread, it is ridiculous.

BIDO is crap, simple as. It is a bad idea done badly, with a lot of money behind it. Now it is spamming members of DNF.
Note to self, dont use BIDO..

Paid or not, I don't appreciate having to read and delete "advertisements" through PM. I'll never use BIDO simply because I question how much thought could be behind a business that does not understand how negatively such a message would be received. The idea behind a PM or private message is that it is for personal communication and not mass marketing.

Spamming is not revolutionary.

I don't care if your PM was authorised by a forum admin. I did not pay a membership fee for this forum to get spammed by you or anyone else

If you wanted to advertise to members then take a banner ad or something in a newsletter

I don't appreciate having to read and delete SPAM either, especially in my PM box of all places. :upset:

PM= Private Message, Promoting Bido or anything else in a mass mailing is everything BUT private.

Not a great idea this thread.
MediaHound can send me all pm's he want when he want.

I appreciated it.
He's a boss.

You not.

Thanks Jarred for that informative PM about Bido.

FYI, I tried to sign up as a Bido member when it launched last yr but for some odd reason it did not seem to work but the link in your PM worked well and it looks like the membership process and navigation is smoother too vs the original page. Thanks again.

P.S. I really don't understand what all the excitement is about. I don't think I get more than a handful of PM's like that a year so no big deal at all, especially informative ones.

I also received te Bido spam. I do not appreciate it. I did not seek this information. I am not saying anything negative about the program, just the way it was presented to me. I am sure that the higher ups will address the matter.

Another vote from someone that doesn't appreciate the spam in my PM box.

Next time, start a thread like everyone else or buy a banner.

Step back for a second and think....

Was this PM about viagra, rolex watches or free mp3s?

It was about a service *very closely linked* to the biggest reason we are using DNForum: to make money from the domains we own.

Bido is one such venue that offers *yet another opportunity* for us to sell our domains. We don't have to use it, but it's there to use. And the availability of its services is what makes it worthy.

I didn't "order" that PM from MediaHound but I am not bothered by it. I actually read what it said and amongst my other 2,499 PM's - I always have a 99% full PMbox - it didn't make much of a difference. It was not a PM about buying traffic, or how to do "blackhat SEO" or how to make my domain #1 in Google.

I'll be watching Bido's reincarnation closely.

I totally agree with Acro.

MH can send me a PM or email anytime he wants.
I know he is not going to waste my time.

He was telling us about their new roll-out.

I was more bothered by this lengthly thread about nothing then receiving his PM.

M-H,
Good luck with it.

Maybe so, but he should've just started a thread about it instead of a mass spamming of everyone's PM box. He would've reached the same amount of people without pissing off a bunch of others.

Sorry, but even if it was something I wanted, I still don't feel like it warrants spamming me... especially on a forum that I paid money to become a member of. I don't get any of that crap on the many free forums I post on and I sure as hell don't want to put up with it when I have paid for the forum.

M-H,
Good luck with it.

They call that an opt-in list. Others haven't and don't want to give permission to receive ads through PM. It's nothing personal to MH, it just doesn't seem a good course of action for BIDO or DnForum based on accepted best practices for Internet marketing. Perhaps DnForum can instead provide a way to opt in for PM advertising so that those of you who appreciate such information can receive as much of it as you want.
