I really don't care who it's from, I don't appreciate PM spam from anyone.

Of course today I receive an email from DNForum that says I have a new PM from MediaHound saying he is happy to announce that Bido is open again.

Who cares? Certainly not me.

Members pay hundreds of dollars to join the forums here so "Former DNF Admin's" can spam us?

This user needs to go bye bye along with all their posts for abusing the forum. Their thread is already filling up with users complaining about the spam.

----------------------------------------

Spam Definition
The word "Spam" as applied to Email means Unsolicited Bulk Email ("UBE").

Unsolicited means that the Recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Bulk means that the message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content.

A message is Spam only if it is both Unsolicited and Bulk.

----------------------------------------

Unsolicited - check
Bulk - check

Spam = yes

I was more bothered by this lengthly thread about nothing then receiving his PM.
Yeah, but you had a choice to open this thread or not. Unlike the PM that made me think that it was something addressed to me personally and that I might give a damn about.

I second what Brian said.
Sending a PM makes it seem personal, while in actuality it's not.
This is very similar to email spam and should not be tolerated, whoever the sender is. We should look at the "action" itself and not at "who" is doing it. I do not appreciate this kind of advertisement.

It was about a service *very closely linked* to the biggest reason we are using DNForum: to make money from the domains we own.

MH could of easily created a thread announcing the changes at Bido, but he chose to use the Private Message system instead... If Esitibot or Sedo did this, those not bothered by this would have a much different attitude.

If were going to allow the big boys to SPAM us, you have to allow the little guys too.. And if this is going to be an ongoing occurrence, at least give members the option to opt out.

Raider, I understand the principle of your argument; all I am saying is that the PM was a piece of "news" or promo from a company that can work for our common interests. If - for example - you get email spam about toy cars and wanted to get one for your son, you'd probably consider it a positive email.

Spammers should be castrated so they stop multiplying. Same goes for smokers.

You all really need to read it!

After you read it, tell me what you think! and please do PM me!

That's exactly why the spammers continue to spam us. Even though it costs $$$ to send spam / mass emails, they continue to do it, because some people will treat the emails as "positive" and purchase their products. If no one responds to their offers, they will stop because there's no money to be made.

It surely is a "positive experience" for those some people who find the products interesting, but not for the others.

Some of us find Bido interesting. Some of us don't.
To the latter group this PM is simply spam.

I did not mind the spam..it was relevant.

I wonder how much it costs to PM the whole crowd here anyway.

I disagree 100%

A SPAM is a unwanted PM from a Domainer who is trying to sell me CRAP or a Spammer trying to sell PORN in a domain forum! A paid PM that has been approved by the owner of this forum is not spam, as it states in the membership agreement. This forum is a Private Forum, for that reason, the ADMIN has the power to use its POWER to generate revenue from what ever source it likes! Under your membership agreement you signed up for this!

If MH pm'd us on his own terms, that is SPAM!

You people have a lot of nerves to make such a big fuss about the one and only PM we have received from DNF in the last 4 years!!! I know this, cause THIS IS THE ONLY PM the ADMIN has approved and sent since I joined in 2005.

You stand a better chance of being inducted into the Domainer Hall of Fame, than you do receiving a PM from me.

Ok, if it's stated in the membership agreement then technically it's not spam.

But what's the URL of this membership agreement? I cannot seem to find it. If you can quote the exact sentences from the membership agreement, I'm sure none of us will complain because we had agreed to it.

This reminds me of what some major stores do; They have a big sign plastered near each entrance & exit, "NO SOLICITING", but when you walk inside the store to shop, your approached and hounded by solicitors, Solicitors that are paying the store a commission of whatever they sell you!!!

They should change the sign to; "NO SOLICITING WITHOUT GIVING US A CUT"

You of all people? :pound:

I have a piece of advice for you; Grow up, find a girl, get married, have children and concentrate on supporting and nurturing a loving family, then you'll no longer feel the need to waste your money and time reading spiritual books like this one.

Hmm I've received the PM 3 times! Has anyone else received it more than 1 time?

The guys at the *other forum* have done a better job promoting BIDO. Something to learn from.

Where else can you find users to pay between $20 and $400 for a forum account just so they can receive spam?

Someone also asked where the forum rules are. They are here. It mentions nothing about advetising but it does mention PM's.

I'd like to hear a resolution on this.

Morons who do not know that smoking is not written in genetic code should be castrated first though, because while smoking can be quit anytime, stupid will be stupid stupid forever...

Here's a quote from that page regarding PM's:
http://www.dnforum.com/rules.php#6
6. Do not PM spam. You should only PM to reply to a PM sent to you, or to answer a post that has requested a PM response.

MIR, where is this "membership agreement" you talked about?
