I really don't care who it's from, I don't appreciate PM spam from anyone.

Of course today I receive an email from DNForum that says I have a new PM from MediaHound saying he is happy to announce that Bido is open again.

Who cares? Certainly not me.

Members pay hundreds of dollars to join the forums here so "Former DNF Admin's" can spam us?

This user needs to go bye bye along with all their posts for abusing the forum. Their thread is already filling up with users complaining about the spam.

----------------------------------------

Spam Definition
The word "Spam" as applied to Email means Unsolicited Bulk Email ("UBE").

Unsolicited means that the Recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Bulk means that the message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content.

A message is Spam only if it is both Unsolicited and Bulk.

----------------------------------------

Unsolicited - check
Bulk - check

Spam = yes

Jarred is a great guy, and an asset in this forum. I do agree having bido members know about the updates is important, but I think the approach can be done better. I would suggest in the future send out updates to members who have agreed to received email update notification at the site itself. This can be done in email format. Anyway, peace.

I agree, Jarred is a top guy and was a great admin, he can PM me any time.

People yelling SPAM on here remind me of an 1800's saloon full of poker
playing rum drinking cowboys, and someone yells out CHEAT and the
bullets start flying everywhere. Spam is MASS advertising, usually for free,
he sent the PM once and paid for it, one email doesn't hurt c'mon. :asleep:

After all the work Jarred did for us, shame people shame

Bunch of cry babies. Like Acro said at least this is a related post to the domain business and an opportunity to find a place for many to auction domains. I am sure more than a few were interested in this service. Secondly, the guy paid for the pm blast...as long as this type of 'spam' is few and far between I have no problem with an occasional bit of extra mail.

Here's a novel concept for you.

It's called "permission"

I didn't give permission to anyone to invade my inbox with their rubbish.

Like you probably didn't grant permission to the other spammers that send you rubbish about enlargements every single day.

PM = personal message.

Bido are spammers. End of

Everyone keeps mentioning that he paid for it so it's okay. That's like saying it's okay to for someone to rape your sister... as long as they pay for it. I don't give a rat's ass if he shelled out $500,000 for the ad, it's still unsolicitd spam that I didn't want.

The fact is, spamming is against the forum rules and it should not be allowed for anyone no matter how deep their pockets are or how much clout they have. I paid a membership fee when I joined and I don't expect anyone else to be able to pay more money in order to bypass my rights as a member.

I really don't know the guy or know how much blood sweat and tears he has put into this place. However, I do know is that everyone her has paid a membership fee that should've covered all the work he has done. I have no shame about wanting what I paid for.

I don't care if it was information that I wanted -- it shouldn't be spammed. Hell, I'm always interested in the latest GoDaddy discount codes, but I would be pissed off if I got a PM telling me about it. Start a damn thread like everyone else.

Secondly, the guy paid for the pm blast...as long as this type of 'spam' is few and far between I have no problem with an occasional bit of extra mail.
Here we go with the "he paid for it" excuse again. You have no problem with it since it is only occational, but it seems that this will open up a bunch of other people wanting to pay in order to get permission to spam everyone's PM box. Let's cut this out from the beginning and not allow it... for ANYONE!

The membership fee does not exclude advertising, look at the banners.
If you got a newsletter in your PM with paid adverts included would you
complain about that? What's the difference? :?:

I don't get an email about a new banner
The banner doesn't get sent to my PM box
I can ignore the banner

Shall I go on?

The content of the pm does not bother me, it is the principle.

I bet I wouldn't have been allowed to promote my site like this...

It's incredible that people are actually debating whether PM should be used for spam. I received the same BIDO spam and am now amazed that Adam takes money for abusing the PM system. Incredible. A very bad idea. Make all the money you want in the forums, but don't compromise PM's with spam.

As this is a paid forum I would have thought that the admins would know better than to annoy paying members with this kind of rubbish.

I spent more time reading this thread (parts of it..), than caring about the PM, but still. If I spend a few hundreds of $ to sign up to this forum, I would not like to receive mass ads in my PM, or I want my share of the income.

The difference is

1) We purchased a limited amount of space in our PM box. SPAM takes part of that allotment away

2) We use out PM boxes for real business. That means we have to take our time to load and delete the SPAM. I don't have to manually load and delete a banner.

I think there should be monetary compensation to the victims of this Bido scam, for time wasted and to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I propose $20 per account. If MediaHound doesn't pay, ban him permanently.

Absolutely incredible response... isn't every spam "good news"?

Seriously --- send me your email address. I'll put you on some lists where
you will get loads of "good news" about winning the lottery, viagra, refinance, and helping some family move a fortune out of Nigeria and they want to give you 30%.

Better yet, stand behind your support of "good news" spam and post your email here so we can all help you find "good news".

Find a better way to rise $20.
Sell some domains and don't talk BS.

What is with all the name calling? One of the first rules of domaining IMHO is to be respectful even when someone is targeting you...Don't take the bait and take the high road. With that said, I have taken the bait once or twice.

As for the BIDO pm, I got it as well, read it and deleted it. It wasn't a big deal. However, I disagree that it should have come through the PM system as it is private messaging. This is a slippery slope...
