Sedo's upcoming adult auction places porn ads where they don't belong!

Sedo promotes pornographic domains, such as pornos.net & seeporno.com on ALL public and private pages, by displaying the semi-nude ad pictured below. I wonder how many visitors willing to place an offer at a given non-adult domain such as the one I'm listing below were put off by the visuals.

I totally concur! Glad you brought it up. Fine to advertise it, but text ads would be fine.

I almost felt embarrased last night when I went to sedo & my wife was looking over my shoulder. No honey, it's just one of those domain sites...

I am not bothered by the image. But it's on the offers page of every domain at Sedo! It hit me after sending a link via email to a person who emailed me about one of my domains at Parked and I sent him the Sedo URL to place an offer - and that's for a non-adult domain.

What's that supposed to mean? That it's ok to visit the offer page of, say, StoryBook.net looking to place an offer as a writer of kids' books and looking at a skyscraper ad with "porn" on it?

This is not about being nonchalant about pornography; it's about implementing an ad campaign without carefully planning its impact and targeted audience.

It's one thing being a domainer and understanding a banner to a porno ad. But trying to sell a domain to an end user while remaining professional on a non-pornographic domain is the point.

The ad is still showing in the public "make offer" URL of every domain that's added to the Sedo database, regardless of whether it's adult or not. With the adult auction running in 6 days is Sedo planning to drag this out? I'm sure I'm not the only one that'd like to see this resolved today.

I agree with these points - I even saw the ad after I logged in. No, I'm not offended by it but I can see the unprofessionalism of this - especially in the examples given.

Just another reason why I've been slowly backing away from Sedo.

you can only see a portion of her back and one arm, that is not semi-nude to me

some might say "if you don't want the ads on your domain page then don't list them at sedo".

now i do agree that for you as an individual, that you have a right to object, but those who are in the biz of buying and selling domains know that adult domains do exist.


so if you've never had any previous objections to other ads being alongside pages where your domains are being offered for sale, then how can you pick and choose?

since you brought it to light, perhaps they may consider an "opt-out" feature.

i noticed these ads but to me ....it ain't no biggie

any interested buyer shouldn't be deterred from bidding on a domain because of those ads

I have to go with Theo on this one. It doesn't really matter how much clothing the woman is wearing - you only have to see the text in the ad to be potentially insulted. I've see that damned ad on a few of my Sedo offer pages today, where there is no 'fit'.

It "ain't no biggie" to you Don, but when I give the selling URL of a non-adult domain to a potential buyer who inquires about a domain related to children books or anything non-adult for that matter, it becomes a major issue because it can cost me a sale.

I didn't know that porn became so mainstream that we can accept nudity and suggestive text in an environment that does not warn its unsuspecting visitors. That's why we have ratings for TV, films, video, books and even web sites.

Try putting this content on your local newspaper's web site and I am sure you'll get quite the "cold" response from them.

Lisa, I'll tell you what. Sedo has 24 hours to remove the ad from the Public Offers page of my domains - e.g http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=ufa.org, after that I will contact the FCC about your lack of compliance with regards to pornography.

I am not a prude but your lack of professional thinking startles me. Additionally, loading that page 10 times resulted in 5 appearances of the ad.

My issue isn't with the picture - heck, I see more than that if I go to the beach.

My issue is the domains being offered on the ad, "DirtyVideos.com", "Pornos.net", and "SeePorn.com".

What kind of message is this saying about Sedo - especially beginners and non-domainers?

What next? An ad with a picture of a cigarette with the domains "CocaineSnorters.com", "Marijuana.info", and "AcidTrips.com"?

Also - my work has a strong policy about browsing and visiting "adult" sites. While Sedo is generally a harmless site (as long as I don't go looking for adult related domains) that ad is now cached on (and off) my computer for corp security to view - they now have reason to block Sedo.com (company wide) and possibly persue corrective action for anyone who goes to (or attempts to go to) the site.

Isn't it possible to add in something that would only display that ad while browsing names that are adult realted?

My issue is not the ad. It's not the semi-nude blonde. It's not the Pornos.net reference. I would care less if it said "F*ckingMidgets.com".

My issue is with the fact that I have no control over who sees this ad.

I don't want potential buyers of my non-adult domains that are given a URL to place an offer to see this crap.
