Sedo Porn is now #2 result in Google via this thread. The Internet moves faster than corporate decisions. That's hilarious.

I take it business is slow, but common :)

They made a classy ad, as discreet as possible. The girl is slightly disrobed, you see her from the back. The domains are adult but far from hardcore and certainly nothing to get excited about.

Business is far from slow, maybe your English is a bit rough around the edges? You don't seem to having comprehended the purpose of my posts.

The banner is not offensive to me, it’s the fact that it can be offensive to my clients who’d be facing the words “porn” plastered all over a semi-nude image while browsing at my non-adult domains. It’s a thoughtless act by Sedo that disregards my business interests.

It's not about one's tastes or distates; it's about what's appropriate for general business or not.

It appears that Owen made a similar observation at his blog 2 months ago.

Acro said:
One day, Mr. 1/2 Brain - a project manager with a 1/2 brain at Sedo.com - told their graphics guy to design a skyscraper ad promoting the Adult Auction. Nice creative work from Mr. Pixels.

Theo, a little off point but when you get a minute could you forward along the contact emails for :

Mr. 1/2 Brain
&
Mr. Pixels

I could use some contacts next time my emails get ignored.

I'm sure we'll find out from Lisa tomorrow - Sedo currently is closed, while our domains display porn ads. That's what I call 24/7 service.

This thread really makes it clear who has actually had a career in the corporate world, and who never made it past the 'you want fries with that'?' type of job.

This is a no brainer for anyone who has actually been in a corporate office.

I am fully aware of the purpose of your posts and the fact you seem worried that a potential client would forgo a mainstream domain purchase after being intimidated by the banner.

My opinion is that this is far fetched, because the banner is not offensive and also because it is clearly advertising something that is totally unrelated to whatever domain you are selling on that page. Anyone with half a brain will know that this is just a 3rd party ad for the auction platform and not something you are pushing.

Let me put it this way: I've worked for companies that would fire the employees involved in such a gaffe, all the way to middle management. And frankly, all I want is the ad removed - before it generates more problems to thousands of domainers that currently have their domain portfolios parked at Sedo, oblivious to what's going on.

the banner is not offensive and also because it is clearly advertising something that is totally unrelated to whatever domain you are selling on that page. Anyone with half a brain will know that this is just a 3rd party ad for the auction platform and not something you are pushing.

You seem to take for granted what's offensive to all 6 billion people on the planet. Keep in mind that there are different cultures and ethics; the idea of engaging in online business at a large scale is to ensure that the average visitor and potential customer are not offended by inappropriate content. So "anyone with 1/2 brain" would have known that you don't go down Main Street with your crack showing while peddling pornography and selling ice cream.

Is this analogy clear enough?

Whether the ad is tasteful or not is beside the point. Actually, I find the ad very tasteful. It just doesn't belong on certain Sedo pages else the message is clear that Sedo is not the place to do serious business.

He's not going to get it. He's told us twice how clueless he is.

But right now he has to get the paper hat back on and get back to work, the customer at the window says he wants ketchup with those fries.

It appears that Sedo has removed the image frames that displayed the porn domains :D
While not a fully satisfying solution, I am glad that Mr. 1/2 Brain must have thought about it. It only took 8 hours to implement.

Let's see what Sedo will announce officially tomorrow.

Meanwhile, they left the original on their servers. It didn't take much brain to determine its filename ;)

Assumptions, assumptions ;)

What's great with you guys is how offensive you can be in your replies.

BTW I don't frequent places that sell fries across a window, I love potatoes too much :)

Common sense: don't advertise porn on non-adult domains!!! :upset:

I agree, They really have no place there. But I don't think the ads were distasteful, they were actually done very well.

JuniperPark illustrated the issue rather well with the huge bolded text names earlier today. The human brain does not interpret what's tasteful or distasteful based on visuals alone, but rather, in conjunction with the surrounding circumstances.

If a visitor browsed for porn and got Sedo's ads, that'd be ok. But since they are looking for mostly non-porn, the slapping of porn images & text on an unsuspecting visitor's screen who, on top of it, is there to conduct business shocks them in a mostly negative way.

Considering that Sedo has banned any adult related domain with the word Teen included and they have Teen domainers, well...

I don't know about teen porn, but many fellow PI's these days specialize in "teen investigations" - keeping tabs on kids for parents. So I had related domain names at Sedo and set the keywords to private investigators, etc. A few weeks back I noticed they all had porn ads on them and promptly pulled them from Sedo.

Sorry, didn't mean to change the issue...

I guess Acro's never been to a corner store and seen a Playboy cover next to the other magazines, or to a supermarket checkout and seen the "100 ways to have great SEX" on the Cleo cover. The few people under 18 using Sedo have already seen adult domains. This case was over when The People Vs Larry Flynt came out. Gonna be a great auction, make it big!

i wonder how many "buyers" who happened to visit sedo's pages thru typing in a parked domain in their browser, did not make an offer on a domain, simply because they saw or were offended by an adult related ad or domain in the side bar?

we've all seen the volume of sales and the high selling prices on sedo, so do you really think adult ads have had or is having, any measurable effect as a deterrent for potential buyers?

one other point

making font sizes extra large and bold in a post is annoying in itself,,,,regardless to what the domain is

it's a practice that is totally unnecessary, even if you do have the option

imo...

And here we have 2 more posters who either have not read the posts in the thread (or they would already know that WE are not offended by the ad) or have never worked in a business environment (it's just a little different from a street corner) ....

It would be nice to have an opt-out option so it would indeed be a fair choice.
