And here we have 2 more posters who either have not read the posts in the thread (or they would already know that WE are not offended by the ad) or have never worked in a business environment (it's just a little different from a street corner) ....

insinuations about where i/we work, the environment we work in, have been in or where we hang, is irrelevant to the discussion.

whether you are offended or not, you assume that buyers, regardless of who they are or who they represent, will be offended by such ads and it wll deter them from submitting offers on your domains.

that appears to be the point of the complaint.

it's your right to complain if you wish, but not right for you to try and discredit opinions of others because they don't agree with your position.

imo...

I don't know about teen porn, but many fellow PI's these days specialize in "teen investigations" - keeping tabs on kids for parents. So I had related domain names at Sedo and set the keywords to private investigators, etc. A few weeks back I noticed they all had porn ads on them and promptly pulled them from Sedo.

Sorry, didn't mean to change the issue...
That is part of the issue. According to Sedo, just about anything with the word teen in the name is considered porn featuring teens.

If you are lucky enough to get one into their system, they load it with porn ads.

Then there are the ones with the word teen that are banned by sedo as being against their TOS. Again, the assumption of Teen porn.

My point, and how it relates to this thread, is Sedo wants to portray themselves as being the good and responsible corporate citizen yet loads up a page with "suggestive of porn" ads and banners.

Obviously, there are many teen domainers.

Personally, I could care less what someone wants to and does not want to view on the internet.

But in this case, there seems to be quite a confusing message that Sedo is sending:

Accepts domains with the word TEEN in it and loads it with porn links.
Does not accept domains with the word TEEN in it as it is suggestive or porn.
Runs a campaign with domains featuring porn related domains.

So, yes, this does seem to be a double standard (triple standard).

Doubtful that any of the domains suggested in the sedo promo are dead links. In other words, it is a banner that says "find porn here and here and here."

Of course anyone can find porn on the internet.

Again, the point is Sedo is sending quite confusing messages. The end result is whatever suits Sedo.

Whether they are offended or not is NOT the point of the issue.

Read the thread again. You still don't get it.

Hello everyone,

Thank you again for the feedback.

In response to the concerns raised in this thread we have removed the adult domain names from the banner advertisement. It now simply gives the auction name, dates and a view inventory button. This advertisement should not appear on every offer page viewed as it is set to cycle with the other banners.

While we understand some of the concerns raised, the image does not contain any explicit adult material and neither the names, the image, nor the auction it promotes present any issues that would violate FCC guidelines.

The banner intends to promote our Adult Themed Auction and we apologize if any offense was taken to the original advertisement.

Regards,

Lisa

Honestly, the names you chose to promote in the ad were so bad no one would click the banner anyways. I'm pretty sure you'll get a lot more clicks now when you've removed the names. No offense to Sedo or the domain owners. :)

I guess Acro's never been to a corner store and seen a Playboy cover next to the other magazines, or to a supermarket checkout and seen the "100 ways to have great SEX" on the Cleo cover. The few people under 18 using Sedo have already seen adult domains. This case was over when The People Vs Larry Flynt came out. Gonna be a great auction, make it big!

I guess you can offer *your* customers a full set of pornography - wait, I forgot you already do that with the cam site you bought for $300k.

To *my* customers, that simply want to place an offer on non-adult domain names I don't need to have "Pornos" shoved down their throats.

i wonder how many "buyers" who happened to visit sedo's pages thru typing in a parked domain in their browser, did not make an offer on a domain, simply because they saw or were offended by an adult related ad or domain in the side bar

It's irrelevant. It maybe 1 or it maybe 100. What matters is that the adult content should not be there in the first place, to greet unsuspecting customers that did not specifically ask for it.

Thanks Lisa. I shall take Sedo's delayed & lukewarm reaction as the standard by which the company operates. Next time, please let me know before you display content unsuitable for the majority of the visitors of my parked pages.

I'd consider it a victory getting the 'offensive' names removed from the banner. This is a storm in a teacup worrying about a reference to something adult. Even in a business environment.

Last month you were all complaining about ISP filters and censorship, "how dare someone else decide what's right for me?" now your eyes are burning from an auction ad.

This is not about declaring a victory, it's about f*cking up as the self-proclaimed "leading marketplace for buying and selling domain names and websites" and not fully resolving the issue.

I have nothing against porn - if it's on porn sites that people that are looking for porn would visit. I'm sure 100% of your clientele fits that category. Mine does not.

Feel free to show it to everybody in your family and circle of professional associates. What I choose to show mine is my own business.

As others have reported, several Sedo offer pages still display the offensive version of the banner, see below with timestamp. This is not a cached browser image, I cleared the cache just in case. The ad displays the pornographic domains still. It's another instance of Sedo not having weekend support. It's going to be one hell of a Monday, guaranteed.

Get over it. On balance, you're overdoing it and becoming a 'fishwife' Theo. Banging on all the time.

Just because you don't like my posts, it doesn't mean I cannot protect my business interests, Dale. Go browse your Page 3 babes and let it be. This is about business, not fun and games.

And something fun: SedoPorn.com is now registered. What could have been an easy resolution is turning into a gigantic clusterf*ck for Sedo.

Yes, but perhaps you're under the mistaken assumption that anyone honestly cares going forward. I don't really think they do Theo. The initial flag was interesting, but now 'old hat'. It's a Sedo matter..

Thank you Dale for your concern. When I talk with Sedo on Monday I will set forth the terms of my request for immediate resolution. As a service of public awareness, I brought this matter up so that others protect their interests as well. My business contract with Sedo does not mention any unauthorized display of pornographic promotions on my non-adult domains.
