And good luck to everyone today! And pox on your house whomever bid up the two domains I really wanted in the past 20 minutes! LOL

Same here... I had my eye on one in particular but it started going up up up...

I got nothing outright - in auction for at least one.

It's always been obvious with .ca that talking about it too much only creates competition and inevitably makes it near impossible to get names at a decent price. Every January theres a peek in tbr but it doesnt effect sales in general which to me is reminescent of the shoppers channel. .ca is hot as heck but we're still too frugal to pay premium dollars at this point in sales. but oddly enough people go the limit in tbr. The rush will subside by march/april and hopefully getting names will then be at a reasonable rate again. I've considered opening a cajournal but of course it only hurts me and others for the reasons above. I know several .ca domainers who would like to talk more about it but realize the impact to their own needs.

Some in fact do create a buzz in hopes of rising sales but the time now is to buy, not to sell. Some nice sales the last year but they are far and few between. Not an easy ride for the ones with limited funds. Many names will require a ten year burden, maybe 5, and for that may never even resell a name.

Increasingly, higher TBR pricing means that TBR winners have to beware the "winners curse" . The fact that a TBR winner pays more than anyone else is willing to, means that sometimes they are simply "cursed" when they pay too much - i.e. spend more than the name is actually worth. To avoid that curse you either 1) have to be working with better info than other buyers 2) have more faith in the long term appreciation in value of .ca than others do 3) Have better ways of monetizing name purchases than other bidders.

There are still excellent deals to be found in TBR, but getting harder to spot I think.

I see bidders like pool_1481 spending an awful lot on TBRs (would seem a leading candidate for "winners curse). But seeing some of the quality names they get - there might just be smarter money than we'd tend to believe there. I'd love to know the strategy and how much they're making (or not) off of those purchases.

Fully well agree with the two comments above and people like pool_1481, pay way too much, and as some one else said in this forum, they make sure they pay that much, every time. But looks like they do have very deep pockets and are in the market every week, almost for every domain.

But, I am sure someday, somhow, there will be a time when these deep pockets will also will dry up... I heard that Niagara Falls did dry up one time!!! LOL!!!!

Waiting for that time, to enter the .Ca market or for that matter the auctions!!! I am sure there will be others who have the same view!!! Or is it only me??

It's still not over yet, but once again, Pool_1481 showed no mercy.

it's pretty clear that these people paying what is in some respects - too much - are in it for the long haul. What gets me though is the great domains no matter what price they finish at mostly get parked and stay that way.

I know at least two others that post here regularly like me prefer to develop rather than just park any domains won in auction. But when some like pool_1481 price even modest domains beyond what is really worth it monetarily it gives one some hesitation.

it's sad to see the bulk of .ca's best domains are permanently parked.

Two years ago all I had to do was put in a $75 bid on anything and that was usually sufficient to win. I'll bet that no one on this thread would refuse to pay me $75 for the domains now.

Long term faith is where it's at. Prices today are still a bargain. We finally just got control over a pool auction we won in Jan. Nak**Gir**.ca. Paid almost $1.3 k can for it and it's still a bargain.

Had you purchased a radio station or tv station or newspaper when the technology first surfaced you'd probably be rich today. All the media formats are down big numbers as people switch to the internet and you're all sitting right in their path.

Will you be the "Hearst's" of the 21 century by having the faith to buy or the "missed the boat" mentality because you're afraid to take a chance.

I'm still amazed at how often and consistently I see .ca domains used in advertising, business, gov't, and charities in Canada. In a single day I'll see them on tv, radio, magazines, on trucks, and at work. The next generation of youth is growing up and seeing .ca domains being used as if they were always here. It's a good thing for the future of .ca domains and domainers, and I hate selling my .ca's but sometimes it's necessary to keep up the regs on all the others.

It's not just sad, if it becomes overwhelming the average surfer will give up typing in the obvious url in .ca and try .com or use SE. A ccTLD this strong needs to keep moving forward. The largest collectors have too many to develop so we should do our part and make .ca surfing a better experience.

I have many jobs in queue right now, and not enough time. I am moving forward however.

Kevin

added snippet:
As the domainers some of us are, we will whois a good word as we discuss with others. Of course I checked in on Queue .ca since i have Queue .in; its taken, then of course the whois window is open so i gotta check a few others. Tried for Clueless .ca right after lookin for the oddity name. Whatya know, I already have it.. hehe

How often do you check a fresh reg only to find you already have it ?

You know you have too many domains when... :)

actually, it's happened to me once or twice both ways, meaning I thought I owned a domain and checked the whois to find I didn't.

Yes.

You can set up a partnership with a canadian entity. But it has to be a registered company or registered partnership.

LOL been there! Found myself saying - "oh you bast*** you beat me to it"... only to find I already have it!

Or is that a sign you have too many domains?

I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

Is there a twelve step program for domainers ?

Well you can take consolation in knowing this week's tbr is only two days away and has a few worth chasing...
