Perhaps you're trolling here, but I'll go down on record as saying that kick.ca was a decent buy. I don't agree with others that "it'd pay back in one year", but it certainly met my criteria for value in the $500 range (no I didn't win it, but narrowly got outbid).

If I won it I was planning to park. And I think it would have made my investment targets at that price. Lots of uses and I think a parking page with a bit of optimization would figure out the top choices.... soccer (clicks will increase when summer rolls around), stop smoking stuff (high ppc), martial arts/exercise, and maybe a few other possibilities. I might be wrong, but I'm betting it'll be not a bad payback for the winner. I think you underestimate how much traffic it'd get too.

Hmm not quite sure what you mean by "trolling here". I see people throwing out garbage domains as "the domain to have" and it seems no one ever challenges them. Groupthink?? Just trying to get along?? I'm not sure what the reasons are. :undecided:

Of course the second thought that goes through my mind is that if they chase that crap they don't have $$$ to compete for the real domains.

But:

I'll be quite happy to eat every post I've ever made here if I'm wrong about the traffic or CTR.

Feel free to contact the owner and see if they'll give up the traffic info. And no all you clicking through on the site just to see me eat my posts won't fly...

Just wondering, do you own any generic single word .ca domains? And if you do, Do you get traffic and clicks on them?

All my generics that get "0" traffic - nada - zip
it is usually my two word combo (everyday) domains that
generate traffic and clicks

I find that strange because most of my generic .ca domains get some typein traffic... not all do of course, but a generic like kick would get typein traffic for sure... And after a while playing with keywords, etc... I think it could be monetized pretty well...

My personal goal with the domains I buy is to make at least reg fee back in one year. For the domains that do not make reg fee I will loo at them and see if I think they have any "future" value... Obviosuly that is a subjective decision...

For a strong generic keyword like kick there is no decision to make... You could earn a lot more than reg fee in one year and maybe sell it for a nice profit, if not keep it as a moneymaker...

Pretty much ditto to that - mine get some traffic but nothing to write home about. It's the two or three word generic terms that generate traffic for me as well - that goes for parking and websites. But then I believe the quality of my two or three word domains is better than most of my single words... :eek:k:

I find some decent traffic with some generic keywords too. Have a few that get 30+ visits a day and anything with 2-3 daily visits+ seems to be a nice catch. But I also like some of the ones which only get 3-4 visits per month but have nice click-thru values of $5/each or higher - they pay for themselves pretty quickly too.

Part of it also depends on payback expecations. I'm less fussy than some on that count. For the right generic an 8yr PPC payback is fine with me. 1year or less is pure gold.

That's not to say that two-word names don't do well or get typins too. I actually have a four letter generic .ca that gets a few type-ins daily too - it's all about the right names.

I'm curious to see who turns out to be the owner of kick.ca. Unlikely they'd share traffic info tho. After all, part of every investment like that is that you learn a little more for the next time - so I could understand that they wouldn't give their hard-earned data for free (about either their sucess or the lack of it).

Hmm not quite sure what you mean by "trolling here". I see people throwing out garbage domains as "the domain to have" and it seems no one ever challenges them.

Good defnition of "trolling" at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll

I wasn't sure if you were trying to stir the pot, but you do seem to have some legitimate questions about the name... we may never know the answer unfortunately.

While I do see that people tout domains that I can't understand the value of (or bid high for them), I've also noticed that everyone seems to have different strategies for monetizing domains too. Sometimes it's just silly money chasing down bad domains, but other times I've got an "ah ha" by looking closer at names that didn't make sense at first glance. When it comes to domains, beauty is often in the eye of the beholder.

Just spotted - investigations.ca is closing soon at Afternic, high bid right now is $3,000.

Did anyone see if the Hollywood.ca sale went through?

Unfortunately I missed most of the auctions at pool yesterday too. Perhaps a few people were sleeping in... Here's a sampler of some prices:

aae.ca $212
cbic.ca $160
dkp.ca $80
glacier.ca $925
het.ca $150
zephyr.ca $80
imho.ca $80
shooters.ca $80
thq.ca $90
titans.ca $170

Looks like a few very nice prices. $80 for imho was a very good price in my humble opinion, sorry I missed that one :)

Beaker,

Thanks for the update.. how do you get these figures, if you were not at the auction?? Just curious to know. Yes, looks like Pool_1481 was sleeping too... LOL.... Thanks for the figures.. very helpful. I liked glacier.ca the best and then titans.ca.. for some reason. aae.ca was nice too, but I have given up on 3 chars now. Cannot be bothered to shell out US$200 for each one of them, when you can pick up so many at $15/per domain.

When you put in a bid at pool anytime before the end of the auction you get to see the final price even if you don't win (shows up in auctions you "lost" in your history). So I had bids on most of these, but just not around for the end of auction to place higher bids on the ones I was serious about.

Glacier was a nice looking name, but beyond what I budgeted bidding for it. Some of the others looked like good prices to me though. Good to see a few different winning bidders than usual for a change.

See you in tomorrows TBR!

I didn't know they had a name for "it"

Hmm "somebody who enters an established community for the purposes of disrupting it with inflammatory posts"

Seriously my membership # here is in the 300's or early 400's. With 38000+ current members I think I was probably here before any of you....

And DropWizard was one of the first advertisers on this site a long long time and many owners ago. When I still caught drops for clients.

And my intent was to generate an "intelligent" discussion as to what was REALLY worth registering and not.

I meant it when I said I see people spouting off about great domains that I classify as "JUNK".

Now if I had to register one of these two domains I would have picked kick.ca for many of the reasons mentioned by others. But to classify these two as the top two domains in the drop is sheer garbage. It's a shame (or not depending on your viewpoint) to see people wasting serious $$$ chasing names like that.

Sometimes it takes someone to take a contrary position to make people stop and think about what they're doing. And as I said I don't want anyone to take offense over this. But I'm sticking with my opinion.

I only made regfee or little over attempts at a few. Don't think I got any - no big deal -more money for fresh regs.

nationaldaycare was interesting for development as it is constantly mentioned in the media - especially so as election talk heats up. 2008elections could be a surprise - American elections are that year and ours could be too. I suspect, though I didn't check - there may be at least one province having an election in 2008 as well.

EDIT - checking whois it looks like I did get ndc and another one. Hooray for me! LOL You know it was a stinker of a week when your proud of that domain...

Haha I also got 2008 elections... well here is to hoping Harper holds off till the new year, but it's not looking good...

Someone here got adventureclub and Baremetal and not Pool got better.ca
