Safe, Clean and I love the MRT....You can also walk the streets at night and not have to worry about a Pred following you,

We all know Fidel will live to be 135 years old.

That's a no-brainer. Just 10 months to go.

Many already mentioned Singapore...if you are involved in the sciences at all...this is becoming a real hub for innovation as the laws are fairly liberal for cloning, etc.

Also, Panama is a real frontrunner for Americans. Excellent weather, low crime rates, close proximity to the US, and real estate is on the rise, but still good. Lots of culture obviously too.

Parts of Eastern Europe (parts of Hungary, Romania, etc.) - not great weather, but if you really do your research there are amazing opportunities in real estate, etc. Last area of Europe to be affordable.

That's my two cents.

After seeing the video of the student tased by the police during questioning of sen. Kerry, I think Fidel is not the bad guy after all.

I don't think US is in the position at this point even to assume that
there is something wrong with other countries. I think this country needs to be
fixed, not iraq

I dont mind you following me Pred, as long as you have a large portfolio. ;)

If your looking to retire in a tropical climate where your dollar goes a real long way, The Philippine Islands is a great place to live, Many Europeans live and own resorts along the hot beach destinations, but the country has its problems, Although healthcare is very inexpensive, they are not very advanced. They also have a struggling economy as most of you know. But the people are very hospitable and it's a great place to vacation.....Ask Devil Dog.

Fits all of your criteria.

Plus this place seems to escape every natural disaster that plagues Central America, like earthquakes and hurricanes.

Been there 3 times.

I lived in Toa Payoh - Singapore is a nice place although, living on the equator, the very high humidity and temperature can be overwhelming for many people. Constantly transitioning between air-conditioned buildings and taxis to the outside can mess with your health.

Housing and living prices are high, and many would find the country very claustraphobic. It's also fairly difficult to get residency there, and forget owning a car unless you're cashed up - a base model Audi A4 will set you back about $150k plus about $30k per year in taxes.

imho it's not that difficult, particularly for entrepreneurs (Singapore Immigration is a lot more welcoming these days than their US counterparts)

forget owning a car

Taxis are cheap :)

There is no way you can live happily in Easrern Europe without knowing the local language (Romanian, Hungarian, Slovak, Polish and etc.)

I can understand how others would like Singapore. I've heard a lot of good things, and would love to visit. Found that they are positioning themselves in front of Switzerland on banking service and privacy. But need a seasonal climate, and can't take constant heat and humidity.

But you can just walk across the border here. Ask all the gardeners in my neighborhood.

Agree, its a pricey place to live, Much like Hong Kong.

The humidity didn't bother me much when I was there.

If you don't know Polish, you can still live happily in Warsaw (capital). I know some Dutch and Americans who live here and they're very happy about it. Almost everyone at age <30 speak English.

Positive: Very good food (you'll be suprised), beautiful chicks ;)
Negative: Roads and highways are in bad condition (but this should change in few years, before Euro2012), USD going down... now 1 USD = 2.67 PLN.

The best way to find the best country for you is... trip to all countries which you consider ;)
