I have seen that article, but that is a bit old. I talked to one of the ICANN directors and they assured me it is comming out.

George, I know how much you want it to fold. I do as well. Unfortunately, it is over and WLS IS rolling out.

Pretty bold statement.
ICANN is only the first step.
The courts are going to be far less accepting of this racketeering by VeriSnap. Wait and see.

atlach: there is no point on putting a snap on names, WLS should be rolling out pretty soon, but if you do your snap will be converted to a WLS subscription. However, you do not have any priority on that name, someone else can get it before you can.

Cartoonz: Courts side with ICANN. ICANN has made its decision to allow WLS.

Wont snapname be as fast putting wls on a name as they were on snaping a domain?

That's not what they do. Just because you have a snap on a name they will not give you the WLS for that name. The only thing you get is your SnapNames credit transferred to WLS credit.

DomainSage: ICANN loses in court all the time. E.g. Karl Auerbach case, and they were also a party in the .biz settlement, too.

If by pretty soon you mean within the next 8-10 months,
then MAYBE it will actually happen.

I honestly hope that it doesn’t.

Verisign is the one getting sued over this, not ICANN. (at least at first).
Just because ICANN approved something does not make it legal.

Horse pucks:

Sorry, the courts haven't even started on this one yet.

ICANN was charged with fostering competition. Not setting up monopolies. So far all they've done is talk. And as long as the registrar appeals are being dealt with it isn't a public issue.

If they go past that point and actually try to implement it I can assure you that DropWizard and I suspect companies like dropking, namewinner, etc etc will be filing some pretty spectacular lawsuits.
