In general, the bigger the provider, the worse the service.

Go Daddy is huge now. So don't expect much personal service if you have an urgent/ special need.

I only have a dozen or so names at GoDaddy.

I get treated like royalty at Moniker, so most of my domains are there.

Im not royalty, but yes I am transferring every domain I own to Moniker. Godaddy is not one of my favourite registrars, but my hands down worst registrar ever is NameSecure. The amount of faxes I had to send from New Zealand for a account domain push was unbelievable. Plus their support is 48+ hours response time.

Both godaddy and namecheap are good in my opinion. They both accept paypal.

i am a new godaddy reseller and everything is looking good so far, you can use them for customer support and their csr well try to sell your customers more products after they helped them out with their tech support.

I use Godaddy only if somebody pushes a domain to me. I really "enjoy" Godaddy's transfers. Not like another registrars - push and done. Godaddy - sends an email, I have to login, click on transfer, than fill-in secret number one and secret number two from email, than click, than go to "checkout" zero dollar, reject 2 pages of offers as in "nobody can reject", than checkout, than fill-in the generated number and than is "done". When I am buying domain which is on Godaddy I always think "Looka looka, I am buying from an amateur again"... One more thing - I also enjoy the 60 days rule, so I can have more reminders to do not forget transfer it out after those bloody 60 days...

I am recently using Domainsite with $6.99 domains but maybe in the future will try to get a $6.95 Enom resellers account...

Too difficult to manage. Cases in point:

1. As mentioned before, too many pages to check out.
2. Transfer lock is also domain modification lock. Can't keep domains locked and still make DNS changes. To change DNS on a locked domain, you have to select, unlock, wait 1-2 minutes for change, select domain, click change DNS, activate fields (WTF?), enter new DNS, submit.
3. Too commercial. For a real domainer, you don't need glamour (what's with the girls everywhere?), graphics, and upsells. You just need to be able to register domains quickly for a good price and manage them easily. Godaddy fails on both counts.
4. Absence of any good DNS management features (a la eNom) other that redirect.

On the other hand, I do like their domain backordering, now that they give you first dibs at Godaddy-registered domains. Hope they keep this around for awhile, as I have dibs on a few domains that should make the pain of this registrar worth its while.

There is no 60-day "rule." This is something Godaddy tries to insert so they hope you will forget about it. There are now complaints at every registry and ICANN about this practice because it violates the domain transfer rules set up last year. Godaddy uses this rule to lock domains for all kinds of reason including turning on the whois privacy or simply renewing a domain that is not yet expired.

Well, there is a "60-day rule". By Godaddy. Just few days ago I got transfer rejected as follows:
"The transfer of ----.COM from GoDaddy.com to another registrar could not be completed for the following reason(s):
The domain registrant has recently changed. For security purposes, it may not be transferred for 60 days."

Btw right now I had pleasure to make a Godaddy "Push":
1. Login Page
2. ClickAccept an Account Change Page
3. Submit Id security/code Page
4. Accept change Page
5. Offer nobody can resist page -> continue
6. Yet another offer nobody can resist page -> No thanks, proceed to cart
7. Reviewing your shopping cart page -> checkout now
8. Enter billing information page -> checkout now (order total $0)
9. Please Enter the Access Code page -> Verify
10 Thank you for your order page

Absolutely horrendous. Usually when I buy a GD parked domain from someone else, I request that they let me initiate and approve a transfer out to my registrar. Unless the domain is less than 60 days old, that is successful. Otherwise I simply move it out after the 60 days of slavery that GD imposes on every domain that had its owner info changed.

they have a new service now that gives the domain name aftermarket (http://www.tdnam.com) precedence over backorders.

Perhaps Godaddy considers the matter of the 60-day rule appears to be subject to interpretation of one small portion of the ICANN policy. The Transfer policy ratified last July can be read at http://www.icann.org/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm:

The Registrar of Record may deny a transfer request only in the following specific instances:
...
8. A domain name is in the first 60 days of an initial registration period.
9. A domain name is within 60 days (or a lesser period to be determined) after being transferred (apart from being transferred back to the original Registrar in cases where both Registrars so agree and/or where a decision in the dispute resolution process so directs).
I think everybody agrees and understands that a domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or registrar transfer, as is outlined at the above link. What is not 100% clear, perhaps, from this document is the definition of the phrase "after being transferred" in bold above. While any reasonable person would correctly interpret by context that this refers to "after a registrar transfer" (I believe this would be the definition upheld in arbitration), perhaps Godaddy in their infinite wisdom has taken this to mean "after a registrant transfer", or more specifically, "after any change of registrant information". (I know, this is quite a long-shot)

At any rate, I wonder what would happen if you called them and pointed out this discrepancy, and raise a stink about it with upper-level support? It may be worth a try to see what they would do. I might try it when I have some free time -- I've got quite a few domains that I need to transfer out of Godaddy.

Definiely agree with FLe8's four points above. As of today I have 44 domains with G/D -- I did not register any of them -- all were aquired (here or eslewhere). As they approach renewal they get moved over to my eNom account.

Denny007 - Call eNom and speak with a marketing rep. They may give you the lowest rate to be competitive with Domainsite - and/or Dotster who is now offering 6.95 (again, if you ask).

Good luck. But, really FLe8, the pretty girls aren't all that bad - much, much better than all the blasted ads and upsells.....

This is one of the reasons resellers are transfering out of godaddy. This 60 day registrant rule stinks.

GD is led by self-righteous bible-thumpers so no hope for them changing their tune. Sometimes I regret helping them out locating the gaping security hole they had 4 years ago in their ordering system.

maybe they are not perfect for resellers, but as an end-user with 53 domains, they are perfect for me... Their services is fast, the interface is nice and when everyone complained about the the many ads they get while ordering domains, they added the option "I'm an expert domain user...don't show me offers".

For me, I LoVe Godaddy...
