What is everyones thoughts on LLL.xxx domains? Share your thoughts and letters if regged. I regged these two with a little hesitation, but I have faith.
CAS.XXX
SUC.XXX

LLL always make good acronyms for companies, though with .xxx it would mostly be limited to adult companies. A is good for Adult, S for S*x, N for network, D for dating, etc. It is a bit like a lottery ticket but getting some premium LLL.xxx is probably better than some other regs I've seen.

Does anyone know of any .xxx sales? Usually after the general release of a new TLD there's a flurry of trading activity...I haven't noticed any sales as yet. Maybe that's a good thing?

It's because they are so bad you can't resell them.
Like the .tel domains. Some people bought quite a few but they didn't realize they would have to be end user...

Acro had posted a couple of sales...were they spoofs?
I didn't say that. Some sales will take place of course, but it's not like saying there is a market. Or that domainers will benefit.

Frankly, when you look at it objectively the odds are not so good...
It's another industry-specific TLD that has not been embraced by the industry it purports to represent (.aero .museum .coop .pro .mobi .etc .ring .a .bell ?).
Somebody said it's as bad as .name, I think it's a reasonable statement.

You thought .tel was the absolute worst because it's the only TLD that you can't develop, but .xxx is the first TLD that isn't guaranteed universal DNS resolution worldwide. Like a new.net domain, but sanctioned by Icann.
It's a first nail in the coffin of Internet neutrality me thinks. We have to consider unintended side effects as well.

So far its just sales of premium domains held by the registry, of which some people are skeptical if they are legit or not.

I really have to believe that gay and fetish are real sales. Stellar sales but also stellar names and markets. I can see a site (done right) could make huge profits and an ROI in perhaps 2-3 years, perhaps less. Beyond that, anything is profit.

The fetish industry and market globally is huge (and twisted individuals - but still huge).

And the gay market - astounding name and global appeal and following. This alone is a few hundred million dollars a year in marketability...gay cruises, gay vacations, gay hideaways, gay beaches, gay clubs, etc.

---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:24 PM ----------

I didn't say that.
I did not say you did say that...I was asking the question of if they were spoofs or not.

I think .xxx fits adult content very well, because XXX has always meant adult. it is easy for people to 'get it'. the other thing going for it is that adult business is a huge piece of the internet market, unlike Coop's or Museums. There should be a decent market for adult keywords and phrases, but outside that it drops off. Once the 60 day hold period ends for the early landrush names, and we see how the January auctions do, we'll get a better idea of the market.

I've got to disagree Kate.

.xxx is a niche, but it relates to possibly the biggest niche on the net. The rationale behind it makes a certain amount of sense; easy for parents to block; obvious for anyone looking for something to jerk off to; everyone knows what they're getting.

I risked a couple of grand on .mobi - taking ppc and sales into account, I lost a few dollars but, I learned a lot.

Here's what I learned;

When .mobi kicked off, everyone was selling whatever they could. What does that tell you? It means they didn't believe it was going anywhere.

Apart from the odd name here and there, I haven't seen many people trying to offload their .xxx names. People want to hold onto them. That bodes well for the future of the extension IMO.

Ulysees posted a GD coupon for 27% off somewhere in this thread and it works - $73 and change.

Seen enough. People keep sneaking their names for sale in several threads.

XXX and MOBI couldn't be further apart. .MOBI is based on a device, and .XXX is based on content.

If there ever was a "wait and see" extension its this one.
