I'm absolutely amazed to see so many seasoned domainers registering 2 words domains in the .xxx TLD, which for the most part are crap... And at $99 a pop? it must be nice to have money to burn.

There was a bit of a goldrush to it... as unfounded as it may have been.

That's putting it mildly.

Kind of reminds me of you...have no idea what the **** you're doing.

And you do?, What was the number of mobi regs you lost your ass on?, 700?

I've got to disagree Kate.

.xxx is a niche, but it relates to possibly the biggest niche on the net. The rationale behind it makes a certain amount of sense; easy for parents to block; obvious for anyone looking for something to jerk off to; everyone knows what they're getting.
The problem with new extensions is they have little mindshare, and the traffic isn't there. From that angle .xxx is crippled from the start.
Traffic traffic traffic !
Without traffic domains are dead. Useless.
If you want to shoot yourself in the foot, .xxx is the ticket :)

Apart from the odd name here and there, I haven't seen many people trying to offload their .xxx names. People want to hold onto them. That bodes well for the future of the extension IMO.
.xxx is not an all-purpose extension, it's a niche extension. So the only end users will be from the adult biz.
I'm not really familiar with that market but I am under the impression that they don't pay top dollar even for good domains. They just reg an average or downright crap domain and develop it.
I don't know if GFY is representative but that would be one example.

There is always hope for the top keywords but not for the second-tier domains and everything under.
If you look at the 'showcase' threads here or at NP, well it's painfully obvious virtually none will sell.
It's just domainers flushing money down the toilet.

The excitement is because .xxx is new. It's yet another vanity extension.

I doubt the adult landscape is going to change significantly or that we will be seeing a lot of prominent adult sites on standalone .xxx domains imo.
The adult industry didn't ask for this TLD.
As usual, it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. It's an opportunity for a registry and few insiders to make money (licence to print money).

I think there's a decent chance for .xxx to get some traction. Good porn niche keywords with high search vol could get some traffic given time.

I don't see this extension as a flipper - if it gets some traction, it'll could pay off. That's what investing is about...it's not an arbitrage.

Frankly, when you look at it objectively the odds are not so good...
It's another industry-specific TLD that has not been embraced by the industry it purports to represent (.aero .museum .coop .pro .mobi .etc .ring .a .bell ?).
...Somebody said it's as bad as .name, I think it's a reasonable statement...

"Somebody"? who would that be?

I was a .mobi regger and made enough, but not to make a living off of. Funny to see the speculation of those who dont like certain domain extensions. its just an extension. if you want to buy it, buy it. if not, dont worry about it.

I regged a few tripples for the apparent reason:

... Like .edu, one needs to have an institution or school accredited and recognized by the government. To get certain cctld, one must have an address in that country. I made my OWN investment into something that MAY happen with the tripples such as all adult websites must be on a tripple x extension. What would happen then??? (bookmarking this thread for future references). And if it doesnt happen, then there are some people out there who would like to keep such a cool-looking extension.

I did good with .mobi, .asia, .jp and have always come out with a profit. Im confident with the ones that i regged and from my experience, i think i made a good investment........

At the end of the day, the poster should look at the title of the thread...Showcase.

As for the poster, yeah, okay...someone who joined in 2004 but never posted a single time until this thread. Must have gotten a real boner regging .xxx. Can't wait to post them asking for appraisals in a showcase thread and at the same time posts the same names for sale.

Kind of reminds me of you...have no idea what the **** you're doing.
Right. Was it personal attack on me? If yes, what the XXXX or who the XXXX, are you? I like people to be fair and square. Don't like people who turns blind on others and selectively attacking some. It's not good nature to attack people personally. These people will worship some other people whatever they're doing (even if they go to the loo) while they just want to step on other people's shoulders. (selective abstraction)

Don't like personal attacks.

LOL. This is hilarious. Suckers being sold every second.

The adult industry as a whole doesn't want .xxx. If they don't adopt it and they wont. It will go nowhere. Even adult websites are refusing to do business with affiliates that use .xxx domains, this will only grow. Along with ISPs, businesses, homes, and countries around the world blocking it.

Aside from the occasional person typing one in to checking it out. Well, that's as big as this extension is going to get. Good luck to the sucker noobs that missed the .mobi .co hoopla to only get screwed on .xxx. When they could have put 2k-5k in a decent .com. I wonder why this industry is in the crapper.

Pipe dreams.

Adult sites can be blocked even if they're on .com or any extension. Any website can be blocked with the right software. If a place is going blanket block .xxx, they'll probably be blocking other non-wanted sites in other extensions, at least the most popular ones.

I disagree with an earlier post, I think you will see .xxx websites pop up a lot in the adult world. Magazine ads, etc. But we'll wait and see.

The advice to not reg crap names can be said about any extension. With .xxx, adult keywords and subjects have a reasonable chance of having demand. I'd even say if a company can't afford an adult term in .com, they might go for the .xxx as it's such a good fit to that industry.

Disagree or not, they won't be showing up in Playboy. Manwin Bans All Business With .XXX Websites They won't be the last.

This is true but mainly for type-ins. Also, $500k for gay.xxx is a .joke. Along with the majority of domains I've seen posted here.

You're missing the point. The industry doesn't want it.

The funny thing is, if .xxx is so crap and not going anywhere, what is Playboy and the others banning .xxx websites afraid of then? They must see this as competition and they are trying to lock it out. If I had GenericAdultTerm.com, and a company got GenericAdultTerm.xxx and were putting money behind it, I might be worried if .xxx takes off. Maybe they'll be happy because it will bleed traffic to the .com, but maybe there is less chance of that happening with .xxx. Maybe once the porn surfing public realizes there is a .xxx extension, they'll starting doing type ins just to see what's there?

I do agree that regging dozens or hundreds of .xxx with keywords that have no relation to the adult biz probably isn't very smart, but we'll probably still see sales of things like homes.xxx and mortgage.xxx. People will come up with clever ways to use the extension.

I don't think you can say the entire adult industry doesn't want it, who polled every single company in the industry?

.xxx might give new people and companies a way into the industry, especially with top tier keywords in .xxx

You do know who Manwin is right? They run the largest online network for porn, they are the industry. Okay, the "vast majority" of the industry doesn't want it and they won't do business with those that do.

.xxx might give new people and companies a way into the industry, especially with top tier keywords in .xxx

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure there will be some popular .xxx websites. The vast majority of them will just not resolve or forward to another extension.

we'll probably still see sales of things like homes.xxx and mortgage.xxx

Yeah, and they'll be out of business in weeks. No way there are practical uses for those domains in that extension. What, I get a blowjob when I buy a new home?

One can dream can't they?

*********************************
From some of the names I've seen rego'd here compared to some of the names I found still not rego'd in the last 24 hours - I too am surprised with some of the choices, when arguably there are much more valued names still available and much more directly related to the extension. 1-word names even, very similar to ones reserved for Premium Auction. If I had the money I would have probably rego'd at least 10 more. *goes back to toiling away*

Adult webmasters need .xxx like cell phone users need .mobi... I agree with my good friend Sarcle on the point the industry doesn't want it, ICM is in a sense offering webmasters their own red light district, it's not a very attractive offer when you think about it, I mean why open your business in a shady part of town when you can open it up on "Rodeo drive" (.com) where everyone will see it?

And both ManWin and DigitalPlayground filed lawsuits to prevent this TLD from going into effect, they realize the long term effects are not very pretty for the industry, More confusion, more cybersquatting, more copyright infringement of content, more phishing and LESS REVENUE.. But getting back to whether or not Domainers can cash in on .XXX, I see them cashing in much the same way the mobi crowd cashed in with .Mobi, selling to other resellers who are caught in the "This could make me rich" moment, and then selling to noobs when the bottom starts to drop out, leaving these poor souls holding the bag with a portfolio of crap and a $10K credit card bill.

Adult Webmasters are quite happy producing multiple niche sites using non generic terms in their domains and allowing their affiliates to do all the hard work, Just look at the sites "Silvercash" is pushing; http://silvercash.com/sitelist/?nats= Would any of these names be on your .xxx Registration list? doubtful..

I attempted to sell some pretty good Adult dot coms over the years, and even attended many Internext conventions, One thing I learned is that adult webmasters are for the most part just plain CHEAP when it comes to investing in a domain, theirs so many variables for porn that it makes it easy to hand reg a domain, and if the .com isn't available, they'll grab a dot net or insert a hyphen or two, it's been that way forever... Out of the 100 adult names I had, I think I sold ONE in the 10 years I've been in the biz.... Even Moniker pulled the plug on their Internext auctions because of the low interest and turnout, and these were mostly dot com's, Thousands of webmasters walk through each convention and less than 100 people show up at the auction? and less than 1/4 of them place bids?.

If you cant help yourself and you want to invest $99 in a hand reg, invest in a domain that has the highest probability of selling, NOT a name you "think" is good because it's available... Haven't seen one yet in this thread, and if I had to make a wager, I'd bet that at least half or more of these names wont be renewed next year.

Paul Raymond seems to embrace .XXX

December 01, 2011 10:31 ET

[h=1]Paul Raymond to Rebrand Internet Properties on .XXX Domains[/h]Leading UK Adult Entertainment Brand to Move Top Web Properties to the New Top Level Domain; ICM Registry Sponsors Annual Winter Wonderland Industry Party
LONDON and PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL--(Marketwire - Dec 1, 2011) - ICM Registry, the registry of the new .XXX top-level domain (TLD), today announced global adult entertainment brand, Paul Raymond, will rebrand its core brand Websites and its most popular online dating properties with the .xxx domain extension. This marks the largest single migration of an adult brand to the .xxx top level domain to date.
"We believe the future of adult entertainment online is in the .xxx top level domain," said Adam Osborn, head of digital at Paul Raymond Publications. "We see a huge benefit in the adult community having an online space dedicated to our content."
The Web titles included in the migration include key properties Paulraymond.xxx and PrpVOD.xxx. The dating sites that will migrate are: Razzledating.xxx, Mensworlddating.xxx, Menonlydating.xxx, Escortdating.xxx, Adultsportdating.xxx, Clubdating.xxx, Fantasydating.xxx, Mayfairdating.xxx, and Paulraymonddating.xxx. Paul Raymond anticipates that all the sites will be fully migrated to .xxx by 1[SUP]st[/SUP] February 2012.
"This demonstrates that the leading brands in adult entertainment understand the tremendous value the new .xxx domain offers," said Steve Winyard, vice president Europe for ICM Registry. "Paul Raymond is a great brand and an ideal partner for .xxx."
Additionally, ICM Registry is a premium sponsor for this year's Paul Raymond Winter Wonderland party on December 1[SUP]st[/SUP]. This annual bash draws an international crowd of the top adult entertainment performers and industry heavy-weights. Several of the .xxx spokesmodels will be in attendance to promote the brand and its benefits to the adult performer community including its Adult Performer Program.
To ensure the performers are protected from cyber-squatting, ICM Registry launched its Adult Performer Program where thousands of the top performer .xxx names are being held in reserve. To apply to get their own .xxx domain, adult performers can visithttp://www.icmregistry.com/performers/ to fill out a simple application to verify their identity. There is no additional cost for Adult Performer Program domains.

Manwin may be the big cheese, but the customer will dictate whether .xxx becomes successful, not them.

All that will become of their actions of banning them, is a greater awareness of it.

Why doesn't everyone with a .xxx domain forward it to brazzers or youporn ;-)

... the customer will dictate whether .xxx becomes successful, not them.
Customer and consumer.

We already know that the number one searched for term on the internet is porn.

It is also the number one searched term on mobile devices. A personal mobile device is not subject to employer restrictions or monitoring.

Personally, I see the .xxx being a modality for teens and the curious to search for instant gratification of finding something suitable to their tastes.

The .xxx space could conceivably be successful in that regard. The extension identifies the product which is pretty damn strong and brand recognition.

---------- Post added at 09:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:28 AM ----------

Also, the point of "the industry does not want .xxx" is laughable at best.

Why? Because it creates a whole NEW industry of identify a product or service with an extension.

The pre-adult .xxx entertainment brands most likely will get their .xxx and redirect it to their .com. Fact is, they are not going to give up their coveted .com space.

However, the does not preclude a whole new industry built up around the .xxx extension especially when we talk about new porn masters and adult entrepreneurs.

Again, this is an extension that is already branded with immediate and widespread global recognition.

Too often I see many on this forum describe what they (personally) would or would not do as if it is a gauge of the entire domain market. And, too often, everyone is thinking in terms of their own little world (language, etc.).

As for personal ownership...I have three .xxx and don't plan on getting anymore for now.

But, as I mentioned above, there is a whole new industry going to be built up around the .xxx.

Adult companies state they oppose .xxx. and then they dont want to provide affiliate links to .xxx owners!?

Those adult affiliate companies opposing .xxx domain owners as publishers are hypocrites!!!

BTW,

.mobi investment: $2,200, Profited: $3,800
.Asia investment: $1,200, profited: $3,200
.jp investment: $800, profited: about $5,000
