the sheep are those who spend 1.1 million on .mobi's and announce it here, with a huge grin, of course.

DNF loves you for invading a thread and keeping this particular one going.

This does much for the rankings of DNF and for .mobi.

Every mention of the word .mobi gets in indexed.

So by all means, keep it going.

Yes, we losers need all the help we can get.

One ply or two?

The sheep are those who pay 5- or 6-figure amounts in the auctions just because a seasoned domainer did spend 200k on a gamble.
The rest are just overoptimistic - no offense JMO.

See how tenuous these arguments have become? I sincerely doubt that anyone has spent thousands on .mobis on the strength of RSs purchase of flowers. Or maybe you know of some? Do share the details....

Can you show me where Alvaro said he was buying them 'cos Big Rick did?

I don't wake up in the morning or go to bed at night reading the holy scripture found on the domain gods blogs.

You can if you want and it appears that many have.

The only domainer blog I read is domainkingofkings.com. Walk softly grasshopper. Notice my DNF$ total.

Does any one know if MTLD actually suspends domains for non compliance?

http://mtld.mobi/domain/policies/compliance

I ask because I've come across so many sites that are not compliant, many are either standard web sites or they use URL forwarding to a dot com or other TLD.

I have had internet on my phones for many years, it is supposed to make my like easier. either trying to find directions or a restaurant or whatever it may be when I am away from my computer.

I cant tell you how much time I have wasted on a web site not pulling up formatted for mobiles or trying to enlarge text that is too small for me to read while simply trying to find something like a gas station.

So personally, as an end user, if I know a site on a random search for whatever I may happen to be looking for while I am away from my phone ends with .mobi, I know it will be formatted for my phone and I will actually be able to read it without headache.

I understand why the .mobi domain is taking off because as an end user that simple extension could be the difference between frustration and finding the information I need in a format I can read on my phone.

I'm sure I didnt sell you but there are a lot of people like me out there. Ebay doesnt format properly on my phone if I want to place a bid, or research a price on something I might be checking out at an antique store it can take 10 minutes to find the info I need.

Would love to check my bank balance but forget doing that on mobile internet.

Would I love to be able to go to United.mobi and check and see if the flight I am catching in 2 hours is still on time? You bet! However, I cant really do any of that now without much of a hassle.

Honestly it's about convenience.

Secondly, look at the mobile market. Look at how young the kids are getting mobile phones, texting, etc. Pay attention to how internet savvy they are. They are the want it now generation. Many of them have internet on their phones already but currently it's slow and loading web pages faces the same problems that I just covered.

All .com's cannot be formatted for mobile phones, plain and simple, and as the loading times and the speeds and capabilities increase the only thing left to improve will be the content.

The public wants to access the internet on their phones. That's evidenced by all of the folks out there who have it, and that number is increasing - especially among young people.

Do I think .mobi will equal .coms one day? maybe, maybe not but it will depend on how the content is developed. If major companies are buying .mobi to develop their mobile content instead of formatting their .com's then I think this should be indicative of the the direction the market is heading.

I'm curious Fearless - do you actually have or use the internet on your phone?

I have an iphone so I'm an end user too. The difference is I only own one .mobi, iphones.mobi. I know only a handful of people know or care about .mobi by my traffic statistics. No, .mobi hasn't taken off and it never will.

P.S. I never type in a .mobi in my iphone in the hopes of getting information I'm looking for. I have a problem with clicking on links on a parked page.

Fearless, that is an amazing .mobi to own! Congrats!

However, whether .mobi will take off is up for debate but the bottom line is I think the end user will opt to go to a site they know is formatted for their mobile phone over trying to guess which .com is. Again, if major companies are developing their mobile content for .mobi vs. .com I think within the next 5 years .mobi will be more common place than it currently is now.

The thing is as these major corps, like BofA etc develop the content and push people toward that extension for mobile use .mobi will become more common.

That is exactly why I am saying some of the mobi enthusiasts are way overoptimistic.
.mobi and .com will never be on the same footing. If you believe that I think you lost touch with the market.

While I see mobile Internet growing steadily (again, with or without mobi), I still see desktop surfing going strong, as tiny screens and numeric keyboards just cannot provide an outstanding experience. I get your point about the frustrating mobile Internet experience etc but do not expect wonders.

"If mobile gonna be huge, desktop Internet gonna be even huger".
Mjnels: I want to file a TM on this one

That's 4 more than me and 5 too many. Why only 5? Where's the faith?

I'm discussing.

danielson, danielson....

i try to explain to you this is domaining 2.0 (didnt u know everything on the interweb moves to 2.0 eventually?).... this has never been about natural type-in traffic.

these things are just addresses...what you keep repeating is like saying that if you dont have an address on MAIN STREET where all the cars drive by, that you have 0 chance of survival if you choose a location that does not have any "traffic"...

what you forget, is things like ebay, paypal, google, myspace, facebook, all never started out with any traffic... this completely throws your theory out the window that you need a flow of natural type in traffic for your business to survive.

Fearless, Since 5 is 5 too many maybe you can transfer iphones.mobi to me for the reg fee then?

That is exactly why I am saying some of the mobi enthusiasts are way overoptimistic.

But you have to look where mobile phones are going. Those numeric keyboards are converting into qwerty keyboards slowly, the screens are getting larger etc.

I dont expect wonders either but I do expect technology to catch up to what the end users want.
