This is wild. I started this post about a month ago whie I was still steaming from my Fabulous experience. I wanted to check my previous threads to see if I had any bids that I missed and this thread jumped out with over 50 responses.
In hindsight, I have a few things to offer. I was only with Fabulous for a little over a month and I remember praising them to many people during that time. The game-plan all along for my poker player names was to get them in the system so that when the World Series of Poker Main Event aired on ESPN I would be in position to capitalize on the legitimate traffic that would come. I had mentioned this fact in at least two emails to my account manager ahead of time. The traffic on these poker names was quite inconsistent, somedays a few clicks per name, and some days no clicks per name (many names got no clicks). These were only 300-400 of over 2000 names I had parked there though.
I really think I know what they are up to. In the beginning they have high expectations and good intentions, but the moment they decide they don't like your portfolio then they will do what they can to get rid of you. The problem is that you can spend hundreds of hours getting everything set up and they can pull the rug out from under you at any time (yes, I know that is their right, but it is also my right to tell my story and warn others).
Looking back, I remember a few odd emails early on telling me to not enter names that I didn't own or my account would be suspended. This was funny because my account rep had entered the names and a few of them were entered incorrectly: an example would be pokertelevision.com being entered as television.com (example...I don't own these specific names).
I think this was their way of setting up an exit strategy if they didn't like my traffic. I could go on and on, and I could list a bunch of emails showing how arrogant they CAN be. I could also list many emails showing great customer service.
If you are going to work with Fabulous, make sure you are on solid grounds before putting in the exhausting hours of setting up an account with a bunch of names. Those hours can be wiped out with one email. It's not really about the money with me, but I was really hot when I realized that at least a few hundred hours of my life was reduced to nothing.
I wouldn't have had a problem if they would have just stated that my names weren't what they were looking for. They missed out though, because I have about 3,000 names now and most of them are parked at Gold Key. I make more selling the names with Gold Key's easy "Domain for Sale" link then I could ever make with Fabulous' PPC. It worked out for me, and I'm never looking back.
At some point these domains can overwhelm you. I feel best when most of my names are parked and categorized.....the switching back and forth chasing the highest dollar can be an endless goose-chase. There is value in having your names at a reasonable place and spending your time on the creative aspects of acquiring and selling exciting names. Hopping back and forth to different PPC places is like trading stocks every day.
