For the past 48 hours Sedo has axed 30% of my traffic for my top-grossing domain. We are talking about a travesty of immense proportions. PPC down the drain, non-performing keywords, blame-shifting, no response for days - the list goes on and on.

There seems to be a great deal of confusion regarding our new dynamic pricing system. I'll try to answer as many questions as I can here but if there are any specific questions please PM me with your Sedo username and I'll be happy to take a look.

Dynamic pricing allows us to pay out based on what our ad provider pays on each domain/keyword combination. Under our old system keywords had specific values assigned which in some cases were extremely different than the actual PPC rates. The new system is more reflexive and is designed to payout much more than its predecessor. That being said, the transition period will require some work and re-optimization of your domains, but the benefits are going to be higher earnings.

Because the new system is directly linked to daily CPC prices there is going to be a certain level of fluctuation. This will allow you to capitalize on advertiser bidding, and customize keywords accordingly. Initially I recommend optimizing for relevant ads and CTR, as apposed to known high-paying keywords. Having a high CTR will insulate your account from fluctuations of a few cents on a domain-by-domain basis.

OK John, specific questions. Here goes.

1. Explain the drop in traffic to domains that until 2 days ago performed like a clockwork. It coinceded with your alleged "server problems" whereupon the counters didn't update for several hours - traffic ended up being chopped.

2. Explain the huge difference between the keyword values, as seen at Overture's bid tool and the cents on the dollar that Sedo pays. These PPC monies have shrunk significantly.

3. Explain what happened to your announced "huge earnings" that we were supposed to witness; which only lasted 48 hours around the August 18th launch. Since then, our daily revenue has been consistent towards one direction: Down.

4. Explain which goods and services are currently profiting from this apparently invisible improvement of your system. All users here complain about loss and the diversity of the keywords is quite large. Also, explain the reasons behind this change, since we are now making less money than before - not more.

That's from me - and to begin with. Just a reminder, I need SATISFACTORY explanations and an indication that Sedo will put more money in my pocket. Because frankly, I see no reason to keep my portfolio with Sedo any more, nor do I recommend it to others.

Hi Acroplex,

1. Explain the drop in traffic to domains that until 2 days ago performed like a clockwork. It coinceded with your alleged "server problems" whereupon the counters didn't update for several hours - traffic ended up being chopped.

I’m not aware of any drop in traffic across the board for Sedo accounts, if anyone has a specific domain or group of domains that are showing less traffic please PM me and I’ll be happy to take a look.

2. Explain the huge difference between the keyword values, as seen at Overture's bid tool and the cents on the dollar that Sedo pays. These PPC monies have shrunk significantly.

Overture is a completely different ad provider. Overall our average PPC is increasing, but it may mean updating your keywords to more relevant terms, as apposed to keywords which had been known to be high paying under our old system.

3. Explain what happened to your announced "huge earnings" that we were supposed to witness; which only lasted 48 hours around the August 18th launch. Since then, our daily revenue has been consistent towards one direction: Down.

Most accounts are experiencing increases in earnings. You may need to adjust your keywords to improve the ad content and PPC earnings on some of your domains, but overall, across all Sedo accounts, client earnings have been going up.

4. Explain which goods and services are currently profiting from this apparently invisible improvement of your system. All users here complain about loss and the diversity of the keywords is quite large. Also, explain the reasons behind this change, since we are now making less money than before - not more.

The reason behind the new Dynamic Pricing is to tie what we pay our clients more closely to actual payouts from our ad provider. In general, shifting your portfolio away from a small number of broad keywords to more precisely targeted and highly-commercial keywords will enable you to earn more money under the new system. Please don’t forget to also optimize your related links! These often account for 50% of a domain’s total earnings.

I hope I have accurately answered your concerns, Acroplex, and please PM me if you would like to have me take a look at your account.

Best Regards,

Unfortunately John, no.

The majority of the Sedo thread participants here witness an excruciating drop in revenue. Despite our feedback and concerns - including patience and understanding, not to mention the amount of time invested to fix/tweak Sedo's arbitrary methodology to PPC dispersion.

No satisfactory reply has been issued by Sedo about why we are making less money now for the same amount of traffic. It took you guys a week to even bother replying.

I don't think I will keep my domains with Sedo. As simple as that. My biggest asset is time, and I have received plenty of aggravation by trying to make things work solely on Sedo's terms. Tweaking keywords endlessly is not my game.

It's a pity because almost 3 years will end like this.

So we basically need to go through our domains to optimise them once again, even although we done it before... You change your system and we need to take the time to keep up so we can keep our earnings as they were before... or else earnings will drop, and it's our fault because we neglected to optimise domains that we had already optimised... That's a lame excuse.

"opposed" not "apposed" (had to point that out because you have used the same word several times and you should really spell it correctly) There is no UK/US difference with this word :)

Can you explain how the SAME domain with SAME traffic like clock on the SAME keyword received HALVED the EPC/RPM it received yesterday? Or even better why the SAME domain had EPC $34 before you implemented the new feed/pricing and now is barely at $10...

Or am I supposed to outsource my keyword optimization to that a team of "experts" can tweak my keywords 24/7 and wait for your system to approve then 24h by which time they are invalid?

why don't you exit the parking business and focus on selling options for keywords?? that way we can have a somewhat more predictable market & investment portfolio!!!!

I feel the same way, after i have moved 95% of my domains to sedo and now will need to find a new home for them. I think the adult names took the biggest hit, granted if you owned a $250k generic you might see little difference, but i think the majority of the names ( in my case at least) took a bit hit.

"....most accounts are experiencing increases in earnings."

I find this very difficult to believe since I've failed to find a single large portfolio owner who reports an increase in earnings past 01/09.

What bothers me the most is this though:

You say the payout is directly linked to the actual CPC rate. OK. But if it is so, how come they have decreased steadily since the 30th ?

I spend enough money on adwords to know rates don't decrease at this time of year.

Obviously they are other things coming into play

Most of the old domainers do not visit DNF for domain discussions. I only come here to check SEDO threads. DNF is the place for wannabes and starters.

I will do not frequent DNF after SEDO makes an explanation.

TurNIC

Apparently these "old domainers" have been "pWned".

He only comes here to check Sedo threads????

Hey TurNIC

Why not contact sedo directly and wait 14 days on a reply from them, instead of lowering yourself to visit a forum that is only visited by newbs, wannabes and starters???

Us newbs, wannabes and starters that frequent this forum are not worthy of your presence, and I'm sure I speak for us all... We are blessed by your visit to our little forum....

Well, I noticed that Google paid me a grand total of 0.09 cents for THREE clicks. Whoopee. Let me try not to spend it all at once. And the CTR for Sedo has gotten worse. Much worse. Plus what used to pay 10 cents per click ( a wii domain) made 0.04 cents. Wow wii. The 5th anniversary sure ain't doing me any good!

Theo - I'll buy 10,000 options (short) on your domain making $0.03 by next week... Maybe arbitrage will make us the lost PPC money LOL

Please refer to my post-60 on pg-3, and also what Sedo later said in post 82: "Dynamic pricing allows us to pay-out based on what our ad provider pays on each domain/keyword combination. Under our old system keywords had specific values assigned which in some cases were extremely different than the actual PPC rates........Because the new system is directly linked to daily CPC prices"

That kind of confirms what I was thinking about this (even though I do not use Sedo or park very few names anywhere else). It would appear to be suicide for Sedo to cut your income as you think they did, especially since they actively participate in the forums whereas some other parking firms do not bother.

IMO it's most likely due to the EPC's being tied directly to the actual keyword value from Google. They already said in the past it did NOT equate directly to the real keyword values, right?

Again, as mentioned in Post-60, Adsense stats have declined in some ways, expecially 2 very important stats going back to either April of this year, and March of 2005 involving another stat, which is a very long 1-1/2 yrs since that poor stat was last seen.

P.S. Someone asked if I work there, No, or have any business relationship with them, and zero names prked there.

It was me that asked if you worked there!!!! It was a tongue in cheek question but now I'm not too sure...

And this post just confirms my suspicions....

If you do not use Sedo then why get involved in this thread in the first place...

Keep your educated guesses to yourself and let us folks that actually have an interest in Sedo deal with the current situation... (the one between us and Sedo)

I've sent these questions to John via PM:

If it's possible, provide a clear answer (without a particular domain in mind):

1. How two tables of your database had so different, but correlative numbers of clicks and visitors at the same time?
2. Why do you store clicks and visitors numbers in two tables?

If you can't provide answers to these questions, just write it openly. Thanks.
