Got a few decent names today, but narrowly missed getting an auction name which I really really wanted - I'm curious to see who the winner turns out to be. Looks like I'll be rubbing elbows with several of you at the pool auctions (I'm in 9).

And to those using a script to run your auctions on namespro/sibername - beat yah today!

Do people really use scripts for bidding? I've been curious about that possiblity, but I always imagine the terrifying scenario of a bug in the code adding on an extra zero or two by accident :) Instead, I'm one of those people who tends to bid late in the auction manually, but I've been bitten numerous times doing that - lost internet connections, poor timing and such.

I think it'd be interesting to see a TBR auction with a completely blind bid where the domain went to highest bidder pre-drop - but where they publish all bids after the auction is over so you adjust strategy for next time around.

Can I ask everyone here their opinion on hyphenated .ca's when the ovt is 7 figures w/o the ext?

Has to be a very strong two word commercial term for me. I don't have any hyphened .ca's, maybe a couple .com's and .info's

For search engines the hyphen doesn't matter. For print advertising it's so so because people might forget to use the hyphen. For word of mouth and radio advertising it doesn't work. On another thread someone said they have good luck with hyphen domain sales because end-users don't mind them at all. Maybe it is just us domainers who don't like them.

Check some strong two word terms with hyphens and you'll see most have been regged in multiple extensions. I also see hyphen domains used in advertising from time to time.

With an ovt of over 1 million they make good mini-sites - hyphen or not. And they come much cheaper than the non-hyphen domain from a reseller.

Thanks for the replies. I have a couple of .ca's with hyphens that have indexed very well but these have web sites.

LOL.. Congradulations.. hope you did not pay a fortune for that..

No, I paid more than I wanted to but it will make a nice amazon affiliate website and will make it back within a few months.

ebook would make a nice website too, but I suspect it will just get parked.

A few others from the pool auction (a few good deals, unfortunately I missed the auction close):
9000.ca $100
CheckCashing.ca $170
Fireball.ca $310
MotherGoose.ca $80
Simulation.ca $160
Swordfish.ca $605

I won't post the price for canadianfiction.ca, but suffice to say it was a good deal also :)

I have my eye on one particular name on the list for tomorrow, hoping I get it cheap...

Recently I have been registering a few new .cas and I am liking some of them a lot, for reg fee I have gotten the following in the last few weeks:

Gastric.ca
Foggy.ca
Smoother.ca
Zane.ca
Sews.ca
Mastodon.ca
HomeCareNurse.ca
SkinnyDip.ca
Prolong.ca
Bobble.ca

Some of these are already getting a few typeins a day... I am really on a .ca kick right now and I am really thinking that .ca is a great investment...

:eek:k:

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you. I'm still surprising myself with the occasional small gems that I've been able to hand-reg...

9000.ca $100

I bid double that in pre-auction at another registrar.

What is the best hand reg any of you have done in .ca over the last year. Include rev/traffic if you can. I'll go check my best and get back tonight with it. Then for fun maybe we can show our best tbr grab.. perhaps based on complete luck.

I hand reg. cfrb1010.ca sometime last year. Gets on average of over 300 visits per month. Not a whole lot of visitors but the keywords pay decent with a decent click-thru ratio.
