Good point and nice benefit on the possible commission.

Regarding the cookie still being on the browser, how long does the cookie stay there? Does it later get replaced by a diifferent cookie?

Is the cookie always there in the future so anytime they visit Afternic we get credit for the sale on our own domian or someones else's?

Good for you but it does not help me see if my affiliate cookie generated from my Adwords ad works or not.

There was some confusion when I emailed Afternic supt. They also implied affiliate payments are only valid if it is linked from my website url.

Well I have just started 2 Googl Adword campaigns, both are US city domains so therefore I have restricted the geographic location to the State they are both in. I will be adding another 4 campaigns this weekend, again US city domains, this will bring the total number to 6 campaigns and should be enough to see if there is any benefit in this system for such domains.

Fingers crossed, but it seems like a simple but effective idea.

Just a quick update. These domains were listed in the last 36 hours or so:

................................Clicks......Impressions....Click through rate
AustinWebsite.net..........0.............7,021..............0%
BostonWebsite.net.........3.............8,678..............0.03%
DenverWebsite.net.........2.............2,050..............0.09%
MilwaukeeWebsite.net.....7.............5,676..............0.12%
WashingtonWebsite.net...6.............2,455..............0.24%

SellingtheUSA.com..........0.................26..............0%
(My own domain listing
site)

Total for the 6 above is..18............25,906..............0.06%

I have also just listed CamerasWebsite.com and PetWebsite.net so as to give some comparrisons between the city domains and other generic domains.

My plan is to try out these and possibly a couple more for a month and see whether any sales accrue from this novel method.

One thing does strike me as odd though that my figures for 'views' at Afternic does not correspond with those given by Google, this could though be that a visitor has 'clicked through' more than once.

If you are to sell a domain via email. Take the time to research the domain, quote google results and how much the potential buyer would spend on advertising each year and compare it to the price of your domain. Point out that a domain name is an asset and my favourite... ask them if they could afford to allow a competitor to purchase it.

So many domainers just quote price with extreme arrogance, offering no justification. Not everyone is a domainer, take the time to really proof your pitch, offer a multitude of services for payment. More importantly swallow your pride, this is a business transaction afterall. Believe me, your bank account will appreciate it.

Great Advice!
So many people auto reply trying to get 7 figures off crappy names it is ridiculous.
That is the best way to drive a potential buyer at your real reserve away.

First offer just received for 'MilwaukeeWebsite.net', and this after just 4 days! OK the offer does not meet my asking price but not a bad first result though. It is still early days but I said I would post as things happened.

My total spend on all 7 domains over the 4 days to date to get this first offer is £4.21. Now to see what happens with the offer and the other domains.

Your impressions seem significantly higher than I would guess them to be.

I believe the keywords and also its format is critically important to success of this method.

Hope you can help others by revealing the specific keyword targeting and format you used, i.e. "austin website" in quotes - [austin website] in brackets - austinwebsite no space - austin website with space - austinwebsite.net - austinwebsite.com - austin - austintexas - or others used in the Austin campaign. Thanks.

Well I am using the following for Milwaukee:

Milwaukee Business web
Milwaukee internet
Milwaukee web
Nilwaukee website
Milwaukee business
Milwaukee Commerce
Milwaukee Wisconsin

For Austin I am using:

Austin Website
Austin website domain
Austin Texas
Austin Internet
Austin Business

None are in quotation marks. You will notice that there are differences, this is a learning curve for me as well. I plan later this month to use quotation marks and see what difference this makes. But this is all I can do, when we know the best tricks things will become easier.

I hope this helps.

Obviously if something suddenly appears to go wrong I can react at once, it is a case of keeping an eye on the figures. An example here is that some of my key phrases I have now been outbid on.

Feel free to ask any questions, if I can answer I will.

Fantasic news, and not a bad first offer.

I am about to start a new campaign next month, so I will be sure and post.

Trader is right in saying that this does depend mostly on the keywords and of course the domain. More importantly KNOW YOUR TARGET MARKET!!!
