I think your title should be "Where did the .mobi critics go?" I'm not going to say where .mobi's future will be 1 or 2 years from now, because I really dont know, Technology and use will ultimately determine this TLD's fate, if an alternative format catches on such as the use of hostnames within an existing domain or cascading style sheets or another form of adaptation, .MOBI will be another TLD resting in the graveyard...Only time will tell.

Somebody was asking why the .mobi threads and the market were still so lively 4 months later.
The reasons are quite obvious:
- the TLD is way overhyped
- the TLD is particularly controversial. That's why there are so many heated discussions. IMO that's the one TLD ICANN should have never approved.
There are other TLDs that I don't like either.

BTW I checked the nic.mobi website today and tried to validate 3 pages at random through W3C validation service.
Verdict:
This page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict!

I find it quite ironic that the registry intends to police .mobi sites for compliance, yet their own site coding is not compliant.
NB: I checked using a PC and not a mobile device.

You were validating a .Mobi page using a XHTML 1.0 Strict validation service :?:

.Mobi sites shouldn't be using XHTML 1.0 Strict anyway, the correct validator you should be using XHTML-MP Validator :whip:

Do I hear the Gobi in the distance harvesting? No seriously, it’s good to see that the mood on this thread has lightened up. My wife is making breakfast burritos this morning and yes, breakfastburritos.mobi is available!

makemebreakfast.mobi is also available. Imagine you wake up in the morning, switch on your cell, on your way to restroom to "lighten up", what better service to use than makemebreakfast.mobi (or for those more hardcode makemebreakfastbiatch.mobi) - automatically alerts your wife to get out of the bed and do something for a change (!)

If theirs going to be 2 formats, I think ultimately web sites are going to offer a choice of HTML or XHTML or whatever the mobile format is, much like what they did with Flash, where a welcome screen gives the visitor a choice of HTML or Flash, many sites still have this, thats what I would expect today for example, if I was using my mobile device to book a room at the Venetian hotel in Vegas, this would be the most convenient option for me as a user, rather than guessing whether to type in "venetian.mobi" first, and looking at a dead page, compliments of a speculator that never developed it....

I know it's very hard to compete with somebody who has turned $8 to $5000 (LMFAO), and has the vision to register some of the domains in your signature, but you know.. I try.....:approve:

Deafening amongst anti-mobi? for what? a banned gambling site that you can't use if you are US resident or for an nba.mobi site that redirects?

Maroulis, we know you live in the world capital of ignorance & backwardness, but you give Texans a bad name.

Maroulis, digest this.

Here are a few NON-Trademarked domains out of thousands that were hand regged by Fortune 1000 companies.....

Are these companies suckers too?

NewYearsEve.mobi - Disney
GameDay.mobi - ESPN
MobileTvPhone.mobi - Samsung
MobileNews.mobi - Microsoft
FlowersToGo.mobi - 1-800-Flowers
MobileGear.mobi - Target
Refill.mobi - Cingular
Cosmetique - L'Oreal
LiveNews.mobi - Microsoft
BabySteps.mobi - G.E.
FilmSchool.mobi - Cablevision
3DGames.mobi - Qualcomm
uti.mobi -Johnson & Johnson
5Takes.mobi - Disney Channel
I could provide you thousands of other examples....

1-800-Flowers placed a $190,000 offer for Flowers.mobi at TRAFFIC, was the CEO a sucker?

Several $xxx, xxx & $xx,xxx .mobi sales have happened in only 4 months......tv, .eu , .info & .biz have all taken a dump in the toilet.

Several Fortune 1000 companies have launched spectacular dot mobi sites onto the Mobile Web that do not redirect.

Here is a summation by a Fortune 1000 firm Brand Marketer speaking about dot mobi:

WHAT MOBI ISN'T:
- MOBI is not a technological breakthrough.
- MOBI is not a solution to easily surfing the mobile web.
- MOBI is not the birth of the mobile web.

WHAT MOBI IS:
- MOBI is an outstanding global alternate to COM in the mobile space.
- MOBI has some level of awareness.
- MOBI will be utilized to develop appealing websites for mobile surfers.
- MOBI is... the next ORG.

Maroulis, go maunder about mobi.

Michael
